I finally make it to my friends house
Yeah, that's right. I can make friends on my own.
I walk up to her front door and knock.
Tap. Pause. Tap tap. Pause. Tap tap tap tap tap. Pause.
"(Y/N)! (Y/N)! (Y/N)! I can't believe it's really you!" My friend screams as she tackles me.
"Good to see you too, Sheska." I say visibly wincing as she pulled me up.
"So wanna tell me what you're doing here?"
"Not really." I say only half joking.
"You know, you really are too stubborn for your own good sometimes. Now let's take a look at that shoulder."
She sat me down on her couch. She spent a little while just poking and prodding, seeing what was damaged and what wasn't. She gave me a painkiller and got up to grab something.
Sheska got a bandage and started to wrap my shoulder. The wound wasn't too deep, but still deep enough to hurt.
"Just what have you gotten yourself into." She whispers as she finishes wrapping my arm with gauze.
"If I knew I would tell you." I say, gritting my teeth and growling a little as she pulled tighter. That painkiller was not working.
After that wonderful experience, she wanted to know everything from funny stories about Briggs to what I ate for breakfast this morning.
And as soon as I mentioned Ed she Freaked Out!!!
By her 50th question I just grabbed the pillow beside me and groaned into it.
"Enough, enough, enough!" I say into the pillow. I take it away from my face and and just shake my head.
"Yes, he's nice, and yes, he's strong, and I really, really really! Like him. But I don't even have a chance Sesh!" I say using my nickname for her.
"I'm basically his babysitter. He already has another girl, a childhood friend, to love. Plus I know his dedication is to his brother and he doesn't need me around to distract him. I'm freaking BLIND for gods sake-" I stop.
"I'm just a blind, little girl running around. Hoping whoever the hell were fighting doesn't kill me!" I say loudly, the entirety of my situation crashing down on me like waves.
"I don't even know what he looks like." I say scornfully. "I can't even see what he looks like."
She try's to get me to talk more. About Ed, about who I'm fighting, anything at all. But I'm quiet. Alone in the darkness with my thoughts.
She sees my hand moving, like I'm holding an invisible pencil. If one was really there I would've been writing furiously.
I choke back a sob from escaping my throat. My whole body shaking with emotions.
And after all these years, alone in the dark...
I break.
Wails and sobs erupt from my chest. I grip the blanket around me for dear life.
Hot, salty liquid poured from my unseeing eyes. I try to form words to no avail.
But the sound, the sound was awful. Like a lonely cubs cry for its mother. It could be heard for miles. It was the sound that broke the hearts of all who heard it. And even made the dreaded 'father' shiver.
After I calmed down I said my goodbyes and headed to the train station.
"May I have a ticket to Rush Valley please?" I politely ask the man at the booth.
I take my ticket and board my train. I need to get to Winry.
The train ride was long and boring. It took forever and a half to actually make it to the intended destination. As soon as I stepped off the train I was hit with a wave of heat.
Being from Briggs only made it 10 times worse.
I wander for a bit until asking a man for directions to Winry's shop. I gratefully accept his directions and head off until I reach the shop.
"Hello, does a Winry Rockbell work here?" I ask a man working on some scattered parts.
"Winry! There's a pretty young lady here to see you!" He calls to Winry in the back room.
"Yes? Do you need anything?" She asked me. I then explained how I was a friend of the Elrics, and how she needed to come with me to keep them safe.
As soon as I told her about the hostage situation, and how it might endanger the boys, she agreed to come with me to a cabin in the West.
I told her to pack her things and meet me at the train station in 30 minutes, I wanted to buy some supplies before we left.
On the train I started a conversation, no longer afraid of talking to strangers. When I met Ed and Al I would've been stuttering and tripping over my words. I didn't with the Elrics because I was at the Base, and I was in charge of them. That gave me the necessary confidence to actually speak.
"So, you and Ed?" I say, wiggling my eyebrows suggestively.
"Oh god no!!" She says with a smile in her voice.
"They're like my brothers! I could never. Besides, I don't even like boys." She says.
"Oh! Sorry, I guess they are kinda like my brothers too in a way. I haven't even known them very long and they treat me like family." I say, completely brushing over the fact Winry just said she was a lesbian. I have no problem with that, but still.
"Yeah, they have a habit of sneaking into people's hearts. Don't they." She says.
I smile to myself, falling into a comfortable silence. I'll have to introduce her to Sheska when all this is over, a match made in heaven.
Hey guys, TWO CHAPTERS IN A ROW I KNOW!!! Anyway, I couldn't just leave Winry hanging in all of this. She is one of the nicest characters and I don't know why people hate her. Anyway love ya!
