Chapter 19

Pride's shadows were fast. Almost faster than me and Ed. I felt pain graze my arm and I gritted my teeth.

I took a (relatively) deep breath and listened. I heard/felt the shadows coming from in the forest. I got an idea.

"Ed, is he standing in the shadows?" I ask.

"Yeah, why?" He said as he dodged another spear.

"I feel his body deeper in the forest. Take out all the lights." I command him in my greatest Armstrong like voice.

"What-"

"Do it now, Ed!!" I screech as I was cut along my leg.

I heard the power grid of the slums nearby shut off. I move towards Edward to see if my hypothesis was correct.

"He can't use his shadows if there's no light to cast them." I murmur to him.

"This is- there's no visibility. I won't be able to do anything." He says

I bump into him and lead him to the others.

"Heinkel, will you help me take this thing down?" I ask the lion chimera. He agreed and we found Pride's body. I attacked it with everything I had and so did Heinkel, even so we didn't do much damage.

In the distance I heard the others fighting someone else. It felt like a homunculus, that got me worried.

"I should go help them." I say to the lion.

"But Greed told us to destroy this thing." He said as he slashed at the homunculus again.

"Greed was never my leader, I don't take orders from anyone here. I am a loyal soldier to the Briggs fort and General Armstrong, not that bossy pest. I'm here to protect Ed and Ed alone." I say flatly as I cross my arms over my chest.

"It's not like I can stop you." He grunted.

I left them and I learned that Ling had taken control of his body and was fighting along with another girl with a similar feel to him. I can always feel the young prince inside Greed, it made me sick sometimes.

They kept fighting the homunculus as I located Ed sitting against a tree.

"Are you hurt?" I ask grabbing his flesh arm and checking for wounds.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Shouldn't you be fighting Pride? It won't be long before the emergency lights come back on you know."

"I know, but you are my first priority." I say as I keep poking and prodding. I can tell he flushed at that comment and he looked away.

We've been like this ever since the night we kissed, all embarrassed and blushy. We both know there's mutual feelings but we're both too afraid to act upon them.

I hear one of the homunculus scream and I assume they injured him. Thinking about the homunculus made me think about Aki.

After the homunculus had left, and Sean and I had woken up from unconsciousness, he had decided that it would be best if I didn't stay with him. He had connections with the North and placed me in the safest place he knew.

Fort Briggs.

I was a smart kid, I knew why it had to be done. I also knew that he was looking out for himself more than anything. He never cared about me as much as Aki did.

And he knew he could never replace my father. That's why he left me.

"They will take care of you there, you will be safe."

We were arguing about where I was going to go.

"I can take care of myself! I'm not your responsibility anymore! I never was yours to begin with!" I was getting frustrated more and more.

This was back when I had a temper. 

"I think you proved that you couldn't take care of yourself very well. You are a dumb, naïve little kid that is irresponsible and reckless." He shouted at me.

It had been several weeks since the incident, I healed quickly and was already back on my feet.

"At least I'm not a coward! I wanted something so I tried my best to get it! You didn't even try to protect your wife and you just stood there as she died!" I screamed.

I ran up the stairs and tried to get to my room. I turned a corner too soon and ran into a wall.

"Damn it!" I yelled frustratedly as I clutched my head. I made it into my room and slammed the door behind me.

"Damn it, damn it, damn it!" I sobbed into my pillow as I flopped onto my bed.

"Get your shit together (Y/N)! This isn't what Dad would've wanted. Dad doesn't know this weak little girl. He knows a strong, brave you do lady who doesn't take no for a answer."

So that's what I became.

When I finally did arrive at Briggs I found the strongest person I could. That happened to be general Armstrong.

It took a lot of constant pestering and prodding from other soldiers, but I eventually got her to train me. She taught me how to fight, be courageous, and strong.

I never was that weak little girl ever again.

"That is what General Armstrong ordered me to do, so that is what I will do." I say to Ed as I check his side where he was impaled.

"(Y/N), let me go help. The lights are coming back on." He says. I could sense the agitation in his voice.

"No, you will stay here. I've given you a lot of leniency but this time I won't let you fight." I say firmly. He can tell I'm not going to let up anytime soon so he decided to do something stupid that will have him end up hurting in various places by the end.

He raised his metal hand and hit me on the back of the head. Effectively nocking me out.

Yep. He's gonna die.
