*PHILS POV*
"Come on, Phil. We've waited long enough. Its time to finally do it, okay?" Dan's fingers slowly intertwine with the one hand that isn't on the wheel of his car. "If all else fails, we can just run away to a new country and change our names and be the nice gay couple that lives next door."
I can't help but giggle and roll my eyes at Dan and his stupid jokes. Despite the anxiety filled situation we've found ourselves in, he always knows how to make it not seem as crazy.
Its been a year and a half since Dan and I met. We've both graduated, me with honors and Dan with a regular degree; regardless I was super happy for him, and we had a huge party to celebrate afterwards.
School was so easy after the fateful day that Tyler Oakley, who is now one of our closest friends, came to our rescue. We ended up hanging with him and his 'friend' Troye pretty much the rest of highs school, and nobody ever gave us problems about our sexuality either. Not even Shane, who actually never looked twice at us after the huge incident where Tyler punched him in the face in front of everyone.
Eventually, after a few months of giving us glares whenever Tyler wasn't around, Shane worked up the nerve to come up to us at lunch and apologize for being an ass. We kindly accepted the apology, though we haven't heard from or spoken to him since the graduation party where Dan and I swear we saw him sneak upstairs with another boy holding his hand. Who knows? It may have been our imagination playing tricks on us.
Tyler and Troye were always really close in high school. Pretty much everyone had the idea in their heads that they were secretly a thing and just never told us. Them coming to school on certain occasions with matching 'bug bites' on their neck didn't do much to help hide the fact either. Dan and I tried hinting at both of them to tell us, but they never did. That is, until the party after graduation; which, come to think of it, was basically a huge night of secrets being revealed.
Troye had stumbled up to the bathroom with me, and it was completely obvious that he was totally wasted. He had run into me and ended up laying his head on my shoulder so that he could laugh freely without worrying about stumbling to the floor with his offset balance.
Not knowing what he was laughing about, I decided to help him regain his balance and ask him why he was laughing.
It didn't take long for me to put the pieces together when, not five seconds after me asking, Tyler stumbled out of a nearby bedroom struggling to slip his shirt back on.
Basically, they were both extremely embarassed the next day. They told us that they'd been a thing for awhile but didn't want to make it official because they thought they were going to go to different universities and didn't see the point in really dating just to get their hearts broken in the end. Funny how things change, because Troye finally came out to his parents a few weeks later and they actually offered him to go to the same university as Tyler! They were both so happy. Dan and I threw them another going away party just a few months ago. They now take trips every few weeks to visit.
Dan's fingers squeeze mine lightly and pull me out of my daydream. "Are you listening to me at all, or did you get lost in your own world again?"
I bite my lip and look down sheepishly. "Yeah, I got lost in my own world again. I'm sorry."
He just gives me a look that I've now just started referring to as his 'Heart-Eyes-Howell' look, "I don't see why you get lost in your head when your whole world is in the drivers seat." He winks at me before focusing back on the road just in time to see a car heading straight towards our direction. Then everything went black....
