"I'm getting married."
Liam stared at Sophia.
"But-what about us?"
Sophia scoffed.
"I'd been giving you hints that we wouldn't work for weeks. You just wouldn't accept it."
Liam gaped in shock as Sophia stood up.
"Goodbye, bastard." She threw over her shoulder as she left the cafe.
Liam stood up, leaving money on the table. He felt numb. Walking outside in the cold just made the feeling worse.
He tripped, his foot catching in the cobblestones. Landing on his hands and knees he flopped onto the ground and looked at the sky.
Turning his head, he saw the art supply store and on the wall, there was a beautifully painted Angel.
"Hey, Angel, you're always lonely aren't you? What happened to the Angel on the other side?" Liam sighed. "Guess I'm alone too, huh... So cold..." He felt too tired and sad to lift himself off the ground, and fell asleep in front of the painting.
Louis felt the familiar sensation of coming off the wall. Staring down at the man laying on the ground in front of him, he landed next to the sleeping man.
It had been ten winters since Niall had left. Louis was bored of his nights alone. He spent his days on the wall and nights flying above the city.
He leaned over the sleeping man, curious as to why he was here. It couldn't be healthy to lay on the ground like this during winter.

Liam blinked as Zayn passed him a cup of tea.
"Sorry..."
"It's not like I could ignore the half frozen man laying on my doorstep. Just don't do it again. Now, what the hell have you the idea to lay on the ground in front of my shop and nearly freeze to death? Did you finish things with your editor? The new book's out, if I remember correctly." Zayn plopped himself into a chair and sipped the tea he had made.
"Sophia broke up with me..." Liam mumbled, staring dejectedly at the tea.
"Really? Damn, and I thought you two were ready to get hitched."
"She said she's getting married and called me a bastard and left..."
"So she cheated on ya? Well, you got so into your new book and ignored her for around three months. When was the last time you two went on a date, anyways?"
Liam looked thoughtful. Then he began counting on his fingers.
"You know what, forget it. Now, I'd love to listen to you complain and mope about your shitty life but I've got to open the shop. Now get out."
Liam sighed and stood up, moving towards the door.
"Wait, how did you even know I was laying outside?"
Zayn looked a bit sheepish.
"There was a knock on my window, and I went down to see who it was and saw you half dead on the ground."
"Isn't your window on the second floor? That's strange." Liam shrugged and left the shop, shivering at the cold blast of air that hit him.
He glanced up at the painting of the Angel.
"Sorry for getting underfoot last night." He waved a hand at the painting, as if it was a human being and walked home.

"It's half past two and I still can't sleep." Liam groaned. He glanced at his window. Maybe a walk would help. He got out of bed and dressed, walking to the bridge near his house.
He leaned against the railing and stared at his notebook, his story written out on the paper, but not really making sense. 'I'm really not into this story. Maybe I should redo it.'
Liam laughed to himself.
"That's what I'll do. I'll redo it from the beginning!" He ripped out the twelve pages and flung them into the air.
He sighed and glanced at the river under the brudhe.
'My girlfriend dumped me, I passed out in front of my friend's shop, and I can't seem to get into my writing anymore. Maybe I am a bastard...' He leaned a bit over the railing. 'Would it hurt if I jumped from here?'
"Hey, someone went through the the trouble to save you last night and you're going to let that good deed go to waste? Don't advertise your miserable mood." A voice sounded through the quiet.
Glancing up, Liam nearly had a heart attack. Sitting on top of the lamp post was an angel. An actual angel, with wings and all.
"An angel...? I'm hallucinating, aren't I...?" Liam mumbled.
"You idiot, you're not hallucinating, nor am I a figment of your imagination or anything like that." The Angel rolled his eyes in a way that made him look extremely sassy.
One of the pieces of paper Liam had torn out fluttered past the angel's face. He reached out and grabbed it.
"What's this?"
"Oh... Uh, it's a draft... A draft for the story in writing... Something like that..." Liam scratched the back of his head sheepishly.
"Oh."
"Is it interesting?"
The Angel shrugged.
"No idea. I can't read it."
Liam frowned.
"Do angels not know the alphabet?"
The Angel shrugged again.
"No ones taught me, but then again I've never needed it."
Liam smiled.
"Want me to teach you? Come here."
He held out a hand to the Angel. Slowly the Angel flew down to Liam, gently taking hold of Liam's hand. His hands were ice cold.
"What's your name?" Liam asked.
"Louis."
Liam leaned back on the railing of the bridge and wrote the name in his notebook.
"Okay Louis. It's written like this."
He showed the pad to Louis, who stared at it with a confused look.
"L. O. U. I. S. Louis." He nodded to himself, as if proud of himself.
"Yeah. Once you learn the alphabet you'll be able to read and write anything."
Liam scribbled his name on the pad.
"Here. This is my name."
Louis pointed at the L and then  the I in the name.
"That has the same shape as my name." He paused. "Maybe it would be nice to know the alphabet."
Louis leaned on the railing.
"You'll be able to read books and write letters."
"Letters?"
"You write letters and put them in an envelope and send them to people so you can talk with them from far away." Liam explained.
He shivered.
"It's cold tonight. Aren't you cold?"
"No." Louis said blankly.
Liam sighed before jumping back to the topic at hand.
"You're eyes are blue. Your hair is brown. Your wings are white." Liam mumbled, scribbling on the notepad. He showed Louis the spelled out words and punted to his eyes.
"My eyes are brown. Like your hair."
Louis frowned.
'Niall's hair was brown... Well, brown and blonde...'
"How do you write... Niall?"
"Niall? Is that Irish? Was that your friend?"
"Pretty much."
Liam scribbled on the paper, passing it to Louis. Louis stared at the letters, a thoughtful look on his face.
'You write letters so you can talk to people from far away.' Louis thought.
"Teach me the alphabet."
"What?" Liam almost yelled.
"I can write letters if I learn it, right?"
"Uh, give me a minute."
Louis watched Liam dash off, before glancing at the paper.
"Eyes blue. Hair brown. Wings white. Louis. Niall." He laughed a bit to himself. "Liam. He's quite an interesting guy."
Louis looked up as Liam ran back holding two steaming cups.
"What's that?"
"Coffee. I can't stay out here in the cold without warming myself up somehow. Here." He held out one of the cups.
"Oh. Thank you." Louis glanced at the cup in his hands. He wasn't sure what coffee was. But it was nice of Liam.
"Okay, let's start with the ABCs!"
