Chapter 3
"Smile, girls!" I heard my mom say as the flash went off.
Blinded by the light I staggered back into a tall plant. Great, she was doing home-decor because I sure as heck don't remember that being next to the stairs! It was then that there was a knock at the door. Al squealed with delight, "I think that's mine."
Al had asked Paul MacNeil to be her date, he's a total dream-boy. She scored his number after he scored the final homerun at the baseball game. I peeped through the peephole and sure enough, Paul stood just outside combing through his blonde hair with his fingers. I opened the door for him and he locked eyes with Al. She looked like fainting was her only option but instead, she swayed on her feet as he gently brushed the corsage onto her wrist. The flowers were a pale pink
colour, matching her floor length gown. After a few pictures they left.
Haley refused to let me go alone and had told her date that she would meet him at the dance.
"Ready?" she asked as we stepped out of the door towards her Pink Mini Cooper.
"Lets do this" I replied climbing in.
Haley parked in the students parking lot just behind the gym. The dance was in the Main Hall which meant we had to make our way through the gym to get to the dance. She turned the car off and looked at me nervously.
"I think I'm gonna be sick," she said...looking pale.
"Don't be silly, you look amazing, Mario's not going to be able to keep his hands off of you!" I said trying to urge her out of the car, my words weren't strong enough.
"No let's just go home," she said putting the keys into the ignition.
"Oh no you don't," I said shoving her hands away from the keys," You and Al are at mine tonight, and my moms expecting us to be home after 12, there's no way we are letting this once in a lifetime opportunity slip through our fingers because of cold feet."
She grumbled," I hate it when you're right."
We moved towards the gym and let ourselves in. It was dark but a faint light was coming through a nearby door. I lead in that direction and Haylz followed close behind me. Before we reached the door we stopped in our tracks. There was someone by the door. I heard Haley fumble for a light switch and when she finally found it the whole room lit up.
Haley stifled a chuckle, " look who we have here! Shouldn't you two be dancing your night away?"
Jos pushed Jordan off her, took one look at us and ran out through the door. Jordan still leaned against the wall that he had Jos up against seconds before. Clearly embarrassed, he wiped the remaining lipstick off of his lower lip and waved with his free hand.
"Ladies," he said.
"Gross," Haley giggled and pulled me through the door. I was surprised that I wasn't upset. I mean come on, how could I be! He barely knew Jos and there he was sucking her face. So over him! We made our way to the Hall. We could hear Best Song Ever by 1D blaring behind the doors .
"This is it," I grinned at Haley.
"We're gonna dance all night to the best song ever," she sang along to the song.
I took her hand and, together, we walked in.
