Chapter 25

"Oh, I want a SugarRush!" Haley's voice demanded from beside me. I whipped my head in her direction only to realise that she was already skipping into Dirsties, glancing around and seeing no change in scenery, I reluctantly followed after her.
Marcy smiled at me as I ambled through the glass doors. The Other Chick by JoJo was floating around the store in a low tone and a table of teens closer to the speakers of the shop bopped their heads to the beat. As I neared them I was able to hear one of them say ,"And then he chose her!" while the other shook her head vigorously, reassuring her friend ," No, you let her have him!"
I feined a smile when they caught me eavesdropping. The last thing I heard them say was that the song was totally not helping the situation. Only then did I pay the lyrics any attention.
What do you know, they match that girls situation perfectly. Well, the lyrics match my situation too but lets just say I'm so over it and leave it at that.
I neared the Marcy and Haylz, placing my hands on the counter top, and gave them both a nod. They laughed at my gesture.
"Geez, Paige, you've literally strolled in here and then prop yourself up as if catching your breath after climbing ten flights of stairs!" Marcy rolled her eyes at me but lost her look of annoyance and replaced it with a smile.
"How are you Mar?" I asked, changing the subject.
"I'm good, Gigi, and you?" she smirked as she mentioned my nickname.
I groaned at the embarrassment, " God, Mar, could you just not?"
My cheeks flared up as Mar burst into hysterics.
When I first came into this store to buy a SugarRush, Mar had served me. This was four years ago and I was 14 but she was a year older. She was also our schools most notorious bad girl despite being way younger than everyone else. She had said that my name was a mouthful and so she shortened it to 'Gigi' . She knew that I absolutely resented the name so it kind of stuck. That year, Mar was expelled from Beumount because she "accidently" mixed two of the wrong chemicals together causing an explosion in the lab. Luckily, nobody was injured but the lab did suffer serious damage.
I know what you're thinking, she was fifteen!
How could she have known any better?
Well she did, because even though she was extremely bad-ass - clad with the leather jacket, purple streaks in her hair, combat boots, half-tops and ripped jeans - she was a genius and by that I mean she was a Mathlete, Science Geek, English Freak, Physics Whiz and Future Historian. But of course, like everyone else, she wanted out. So she got herself expelled and her parents settled for homeschooling. Mar and I became instant friends when we were sitting in the principals office, I was called in because my teacher had thought that my dress code was inapproriate - quite frankly, I think she overreacted! I was wearing a denim skirt and tank top, I was fourteen so sue me, and its not my fault my toned-to-a-tee legs had the boys staring throughout her lesson!- and Mar was called in for her little expirement. We spoke a little about our interests and turned out she could tutor me in Math.
The only reason I passed that year was because she was such an amazing teacher. Oh, we should add that to the list of things shes good at.
Her parents are also the owners of this fine establishment we like to call Dirsties. So they have her working for them for her pocket money and she enjoys it too.
"Sorry, Gigi, what would you like?" she asked as her grin spread wider across her face.
I gave up fighting with her and told her the usual would be good to go. I turned around and gazed through the entrance, hoping to see someone in particular.
