Chapter 24

"Hey guys, Daniel just called!" Al reappeared with a huge grin plastered onto her face.

"What'd he say?" Hayl replied, shifitng her gaze off of my visibly pale face to a very happy Al.

"He just said that he was at the lake with the guys, said that Sage asked him to tag along." she shurgged nonchalantely.

I stiffened at the sound of his name, "Did he say why?"

Haley turned to me with an expression that said I shouldn't care but I brushed it off, awaiting the answer.

"Oh, yeah!" Al smiled, totally oblivious to the crack in my voice and ghost of my soul.

"He said that Sage asked him to tag along so that he wasn't alone with the girls," she giggled before adding, " but only when he got there did Daniel yell at him!"

Haley and I shared a look of confusion.

"Earth to Al!" I called, snapping my fingers and motioning for her to continue.

"Urgh, you guys are slow," she groaned, rolling her eyes as she plopped down in the bed inbetween Hayl and I.

"He was supposed to bring me with, you know, so we could double date! Sage meant he didnt wanna be the only couple," she was grinning again and I guess I should be happy for my friend.

Daniel was starting to take her out, his friends even knew that there was something going on between them.

I gave a weak smile, "Thats awesome Ally,"

She looked at me with her gorgeous eyes, "Dan is so silly, had he known, we could have totally upstaged Sage and Natassia as couples!"

I saw black and blue, the colours of my bruised heart.

"Its Natasha," I muttered.

"What?" she asked, cocking her head to the side and letting herself roll onto her back like a puppy.

"Sage's girlfriend, her name is Natasha."

I slipped a feeble smile at Hayl, but the one she sent back was laced with sorrow and knowing.

I turned away, I dont want pity, especially not for a four-day crush.

As days spilled into weeks and weeks turned into two months I was nothing but excited for the end of summer vacation, which is still a month away.

Thinking over this I cursed the school for working on the USA school system.

13 weeks of holiday is what every school kid looks forward to but not me. Not now when the one person I wanted to get to know over the summer would barely spend any time with me.

Two months ago I had met Sage and we had spent everyday together until Natasha came skipping in between us practically singing 'oh, new friend for Paigey? This doesn't look right! maybe ill take this one instead, hes hot'

Throughout the two months we had minimal contact that mostly consisted of :

Paige: Hey!
Sage: hi
Paige: how're ya?!
Sage: good n u
Paige: good thanks, hows the holiday?
Sage: chilled, what you doing tomorrow?
Paige: Nothing and you?

*With this I'd start smiling, waiting for him to make a plan with me like he used to but something seems off, like he's busy. Sage always replies with enthusiasm but like I said, something seems weird. ..*

-10 minutes of waiting for a reply-
Sage: same.

This kind of conversation happened every so often that it became the "norm".
Thats what Hayl called it if I remember correctly.

One day, Haley and I decided to do a little stalking, you know, to find out who he might have been replying while he was talking ages to reply me. We called up Daniel.

"Hey Dan, do you have Tash's number?" I had asked in a sickly-sweet voice.

"Nope, sorry." he had lied before cutting the call. They were friends so he obviously had her number but why wouldnt he give it to me!

I dialed up Natalie, her cousin, and she handed it over without so much as a why which we lied and said Laina was looking for Sage.

After succefully retreiving and saving the number we tested our theory.

Paige: hey you...
Sage: hey bestie, whatsup?

(Sage was last seen at 17:43)

*We quickly scrolled down to Natashas name and saw that she was online then after checking I would reply*
Paige: oh nothing, just checking up! You've been quite lately!

While I was typing the message, Haley was watching Natashas chat from her phone and Tash went offline halfway through my messages which is exactly when Sage came online. Haley and I came to the conclusion at the same time : While Natasha was online, she was replying whatever message Sage had sent her and after she sent her response, he would come online to reply her. This continued for the duration of my convo with Sage.

Let me add that he never replied my message until the next day saying : so sorry, I dont do it on purpose, things have been crazy and the guys are on my back. One day I'll explain it to you.

I never bothered to reply.

Al and Hayl had slept over last night. Mario And Hayl were going strong as were Dan and Al...

I still think nothung can be too perfect but if anything was wrong, they sure as hell didnt show it.

Stretching out my limbs, I ambled over to where my cell was charging and pressed the button that brought it to life.

The screen read 8am and I had a message. As I opened my whatsapp to the chat, my heart couldn't help but skip a beat.

Sage.

Sage : look, I know the reason we dont see eachother often is cuz of me, let me make it up to you? Lets go to the Mall... Me, u, Allison, Haley Daniel whoever!!:))

Paige: why not jus yu and me?:(

Urgh! I slapped myself mentally for being so clingy, but I couldnt help feeling like he didnt wanna be alone with me cause of Tash.

Sage: well I kinda thought we'd hang out together, like all of us as friends? You know...
Paige: right, well we'll see you and Daniel at say...12?x
Sage: sounds good..:)

Great, what better way to shout Friendzoned!

Something in my thoughts told me to let Sage and trash-I mean Tash-be. But something in my heart told me otherwise.

"Haley," I walked over to the sleeping girl and shoved her lightly," haylee-poo wake up?"

I poked her until her eyes fluttered open and before she could say anything I raised a finger to my lip, "Dont wake up Al...I need you help."

"With what?" her voice questioned, still thick with sleep.

"I need Sage."
