I ran to Dancer and hugged her neck. Then I ran to the tack room. I grabbed my western saddle and my western bridle. I grabbed my grooming box and walked back to Dancers stall. The blue bridle looked beautiful against her coat.

I had ridden when I was 7 so tacking up at 19 was no sweat. I slipped my foot into my left stirrup and gracefully mounted my new horse. I slipped my right foot in my stirrup and tapped her sides with my heels. I clucked my tongue at the same time. She obayed me and we came out of the barn at a brisk trot. I rode into the ring and began a collected trot. When she was warmed up, I pulled her into an extended canter. She was performing beautifully! I cued her into a gallop. When we had gone once around the ring, I slowed her and pulled her to a halt beside my awestruck mother, sister, and best friend, Jordan. They looked at me as if I had just won the Olympics.

"What?" I wondered aloud. "Why are you staring at me?"

"We have never seen a look of such..." my mother started

"Happiness and fulfillment on your face..." my father continued.

"You looked like a princess.." Marie said further.

"I have never seen you ride like that before! not since Snicker-doodle at the stables!" Jordan said.

"It was amazing!" they all said together.

Snicker- doodle was the Shetland pony I had ridden at Hoof-print Stables. I was 7 then. Snicker (as I called her) had passed away that summer of Colic. I hadn't ridden since. I was glad to be back in the saddle.
