To Kill A Chara

Revenge of the Undying Part Two

Chara continues through Waterfall until reaching the bridge. "Hey," a voice stops them. Chara stops dead in their tracks, fearing Undyne has come for them. They slowly turn around, only to be greeted by Monster Kid.

Chara remembers pushing Frisk to kill Monster Kid, and find it difficult to look them in the eye. "You're the human, right?" Monster Kid asks.

"Yeah," Chara replies, "nice to meet you."

"You need to get out of Waterfall," Monster Kid replies, "Undyne is coming to take your soul."

"Why are you helping me?" Chara asks.

"Undyne's been acting odd, angry the last few weeks. She isn't the monster I once looked up to. She's planning to kill you even though everyone you've spared has tried to talk her out of it. I won't stand by as the 'Hope of The Underground' dies before me."

'Hope of the Underground', that's a title Chara hasn't heard in a long time. Chara was called that when they first fell. When Asreil was still alive. He died because Chara tried to force him to kill. They'd take it back if they could.

"'Hope of the Underground?'" Chara asks, "you must be making a mistake. I've heard the story, that child died years ago."

"Aren't you Chara?" Monster Kid asks, "no one's sure how you're alive, some think you're lieing, but you know the name and you know the story. So you can't be lieing. Chara, if anyone can convince Asgore not to destroy humanity, you can. I believe in you Chara."

Chara smiles, knowing they were remembered is somehow comforting. "Thanks kid," Chara replies, "I gotta go, before Undyne comes."

The smell of fish and the sound of clanging metal fills the air. Undyne approaches, blocking the way back to Snowdin.

"Frisk," she explains, "we were freed by a child named Frisk. They were my friend, they helped everyone, even if it meant dieing dozens of times. Chara, that's the name they told me. My LOVE was high, so I could hear them in their cold, soulless state. They told me you took away our happy ending, you killed everyone, and most importantly..." Undyne summons her spear, "you took their soul!"

"What is she talking about?" Monster Kid asks.

Chara fells the weight of their sins returning. They murdered Undyne in cold blood by manipulating Frisk. "I'm not sure," Chara lies as their sins crawl down their back. Chara wants to give in, collapse under the weight of their sins, they almost want to surrender to Undyne in an attempt to atone for what they did, but thinking about how happy Toriel was to see them fills them with... DETERMINATION.

Not enough to reset, but enough to overcome the weight of their sins. "Undyne," Chara pleads, "no one has to die. If I get to the barrier and Asgore uses the other souls the barrier can be broken without further bloodshed."

"Chara's right," Monster Kid explains, "no one else has to die."

Undyne doesn't bother to argue, she only lunges at Chara. Monster Kid gets in Undyne's way, but Undyne doesn't stop. She keeps charging. Chara leaps in front of Monster Kid, entering a FIGHT.

Undyne stands before them. Chara tries to use MERCY to flee, but then realizes their soul is green. "En garde!" Undyne exclaims.

Undyne attacks Chara. However, Chara manages to block her attacks. Monster Kid enters the FIGHT in an attempt to stop Undyne, but Undyne grabs them and tosses them off the bridge. Monster Kid is about to fall to their death.

Chara ACTS to pull Monster Kid up. "Go to Snowdin," Chara demands, "get Papayrus."

"She'll kill you!" Monster Kid reminds, "I can't leave you to die!"

"Don't worry," Chara smiles, "you're not leaving, you're going to get help." Monster Kid goes towards Snowdin. Undyne doesn't try to stop them.

"Well with the brat out of the way," she sneers, "we can get to the point. I remember everything Chara, telling Sans how to resist you, listening to you for years, and then being killed by you. You took away our freedom, you took my best friend's soul, but now I'm here to return the favor!"

Chara ACTS. They check Undyne.

Undyne. 50 atk, 20 def.

"Only one of you is walking away from this," Frisk taunts. Chara ignores them and focuses on blocking Undyne's next attack.

Chara attempts to intimidate Undyne. It's their only other option in their ACT menu.

"Ha!" Undyne laughs, "you think I'm afraid of you? You don't even have a real weapon! If you kill me, you fail, and I'm not going to change you back to red. Frisk told me how they got past me, and I won't make that mistake against you!"

Chara goes to their ITEMS. They hold the knife, and remember killing everyone. They don't want to equip the knife, but have no other choice. Chara equips the real knife. They fell the weight of their sins returning, slowing them down.

Undyne attacks again. Chara struggles to douge with their sins slowing them down. They wish they could just call Papayrus, but they can't use their phone in a FIGHT.

They try again to intimidate Undyne. "You don't have the guts to kill me!" Undyne smirks. Chara decides to attack, but make sure to hit as far from the center as possible.

After they douge Undyne's attack, they FIGHT, but intentionally deals as little damage as possible.

Undyne takes one thousand four hundred nighty nine damage, leaving her with one hp. She falls to her knees. She grows to weak to keep Chara's soul green. They just have to survive Undyne's next attack.

"No," she growls, "not like this. I won't let you get away. I'm going to kill you, no matter the cost. I'm bringing Frisk back. After all, I only have to kill you once, and I'm DETERMINED to bring back my friend. Die!"

Undyne's DETERMINATION causes her to change. Chara's soul turns green as Undyne the Undying stands before them, sneering...
