"What?" Sans asks.
"I tried to help Chara," Gaster replies, "for Toriel and Asgore. They had lost everything Sans, but I could return something that was taken from them, or I could, before Frisk RESET."
"So?" Sans asks, "we were on the surface for years before you arrived. Toriel and Asgore were fine. They had moved on."
Gaster opens the locket. In it is a family photo of the Dreemur family. They all look so happy together. Gaster sighs, closing the locket.
"If you knew how Chara was defeated," Gaster explains, "maybe you'd be a bit more understanding."
"Actually," Sans asks, "how was Chara defeated? I don't recall."
"Frisk promised to SAVE Asreil I'm exchange for Chara's soul," Gaster explains, "and they did. Chara sacrificed themself to SAVE Asreil. So, tell me, Sans, do you still truly believe Chara is a bad person?"
Sans does not respond. He isn't sure how to respond.
"Doesn't matter," Gaster continues, "they're gone now. Anyways, wanna head to Grilby's?"
"Sure," Sans replies, "sounds good." As they begin to head to Grilby's, Sans begins to wonder if he made the right choice. Maybe Chara was a good person after all.
Meanwhile, Grilby sits contemplating his odd dream. He recalls a human, a good human, who was killed by a soulless demon. However, the demon redeemed themself afterwards, until the human killed the demon.
Grilby remembers the monsters he killed and considers turning himself in. Their dust is on his hands.
Gaster and Sans walk in.
"Double order of fries," Gaster smiles.
"Sure thing," Grilby replies. Grilby serves the two. "So how you been Gaster?" He asks.
"Preety good," Gaster replies, "but you seem troubled, what's wrong?"
"You remember the accident," Grilby replies, "I don't think I have to say much else."
Gaster remembers the accident. Grilby had told him about it after he had been revived.
"It wasn't your fault," Gaster reminds, "they died by their own carelessness."
"I was the one who dealt the killing blow," Grilby replies, "it's my fault."
"No it's not," Sans replies, "they would have killed eachother. Take it from me, sometimes, you just gotta look forward to move forward you know?"
Gaster is somewhat surprised by Sans's answer.
"Trust me," Sans continues, "I learned that the hard way."
"Yeah," Grilby replies, "you're probably right."
Something about Sans's words seems familiar to Grilby. Almost to familiar.
Grilby looks at Gaster. Something about him is unnerving, but Grilby can't describe it. He slips into a daydream.
He sees Gaster, a look of malice in his face. Gaster attacks. Grilby reignites. Gaster extinguishes Grilby.
Grilby returns to reality. He looks at Gaster. "You OK Grills?" Gaster asks.
"I'm fine," Grilby lies, "you two enjoy."
Grilby goes back to cleaning dishes. Unnerved by his vision. He can't ask Gaster about it, so what can he do? Grilby decides to ask Sans. If Gaster has some dark secret, Sans would know about it.
Meanwhile, Frisk arrives at Toriel's house with Asreil. They feel so happy to finally be back with their friends. Now they just have to reach the surface and they can go back to their old life.
"I have a pie in the oven," Toriel explains, "I'll go get it."
Asreil glares at Frisk.
"Asreil," they plead, "listien, you can have a happy ending now. You shouldn't throw this opportunity away. Just let this happen. It's what Chara would have wanted."
"Don't you dare say their name," Asreil growls, "you're worse than a monster, you are a demon, and I will stop you."
