Chapter 22

Sarah's POV
Later Jace and Clary return, I fill them in on everything that happened and then we find out Maryse and Robert are being sent back to Idris. We go into the training room where Isabelle and Alec were arguing, "hey you alright", Alec asks since I shut the door on him, "I'm fine", I snap, "I spoke with Robert and Mayrse, they are being sent back to Idris", Jace says, "what", Isabelle asks, "yeah", I say, "another order from Lydia", Isabelle says looking towards Alec, "who's Lydia", Jace asks, "she's in charge of the Institute", Isabelle says, "she's what", Jace says, "temporarily", Alec says, "and now she's convinced the clave that mom and dad aren't doing their job", Isabelle says.

"Maybe they aren't, they were in charge when the forsaken broke through", Alec says, "what are you talking about", I ask, "mom and dad were members of the circle", Alec says bluntly, "what", me and Isabelle gasp, "they don't have circle runes", Isabelle says, "that's because they made a deal to the clave prior to the uprising, in trade for their co-operation they were pardoned", Alec says, "your questioning their loyalty", I ask, "Valentine is back, they circle is rising, they're under suspicion", Alec says, "no way. Robert and Mayrse took me and Sarah in, raised us like their own, we know what kind of people they are", Jace says, "are you sure, they lied to us for years they told us how to uphold the Lightwood name while they were the one who tarnished it, their Hippocrates", Alec says getting into Jace's face.

"You two must be Jace Wayland, Lydia Brandwell, you two are quite legends in Idris", Lydia says walking over to us, she holds her hand for Jace to shake but he doesn't move, "don't believe everything you hear", I say referring to our previous conversation, "did you tell them", she asks Alec, "tell us what", I ask, Alec sighs looking me in the eyes with a pleading look as if asking me to not get mad. "Lydia and I are engaged", he says, "we are getting married", Lydia says, I stop dead, slapping Alec across the face before walking away.

3rd person POV
"Your not serious", Jace says when Sarah walked away, "you were supposed to tell them no, but it's your life to ruin", Isabelle says walking away, "I don't know what to say", Jace says, "how about none of this matters", Alec says holding his now red cheek, "really my sister didn't matter to you", Jace says, "she does matter to me", Alec defends, "really i'll believe it when I see it", Jace says turning to walk away, "we have to stop Valentine", Alec says making Jace stop, "finally something we can agree on", Jace spits not looking at his Parabati before walking away, guilt starts forming in Alec's chest knowing all to well that he hurt the love of his life but he was doing this for his family. Sarah on the other hand was too hurt, she wasn't going to stay any longer if she was going to have to watch her now ex-boyfriend get married, as she was packing to leave Jace walks in.

"What are you doing", he asks, "I'm leaving", she responds emotionlessly placing more clothes into the suitcase, "Sarah please don't leave", he says sitting on the bed beside her suitcase, "what am I supposed to do, I am not going to stay and watch the love of my life get married to someone else, no thanks", Sarah says sarcasticly, "please Sarah-", "no Jace I'm leaving and that's my final decision, tell Alec to have a good life", Sarah says closing her suitcase before walking out the back entrance of the institute.

Jace just sits on his sisters bed for a moment before getting up and joining the others. "How's Sarah", Isabelle asks when Jace walks up to her, Alec and Lydia, "Sarah's gone", was all Jace says while glaring at Alec, "what do you mean gone", Isabelle asks, "she left the institute, when I told her not to leave her exact words were, 'what am I supposed to do, I am not going to stay and watch the love of my life get married to someone else, no thanks'", Jace says, Isabelle covers her mouth with her hands, "oh my gosh", she whispers, "good going Alec", Jace says starting to walk away, "hey this isn't Alec's fault", Lydia says making Jace turn around.

"This is exactly Alec's fault, Sarah was in love with him, they were boyfriend and girlfriend for angel sakes. But Alec as always has to do everything by the law thinking no ones going to get hurt but oh look someone important did", Jace spits being pulled back by Isabelle, "what's going on here", Maryse asks walking towards them, "Alec is an ass", Jace says pushing past Isabelle and walking away, Maryse looks at her children for confirmation, "nothing", Isabelle says, "I can't believe you Alec, your such a selfish bastard sometimes", She walks away.

Alec was looking at one of the computers when Robert walks up to him, "I need a word with you, now", he says sternly making Alec follow him, "we're you going to tell me you were engaged before we left for Idris", Robert says, "I'm marrying Lydia and now you know", Alec says emotionlessly, "I think you misunderstood your mother's suggestion when she said you had to marry. She was thinking of someone who will save our good name, not someone who will destroy it", Robert says, "you think Lydia is destroying it, not the fact that you were in the circle", Alec says, "you know", Robert pales, "what you'd think I'd never find out all these years you never said anything", Alec says, "we couldn't", Robert says, "is that the best you can do? You drilled into me that I was never good enough", Alec says, "it's want that we wanted you to be better than we were", Robert says, "you wanted us to sweep the history under the rug, you wanted us to save you, to restore the Lightwood name", Alec spits, "Alec your making a big mistake", Robert tells his oldest son, "no I'm going to fix what you broke and I am going to do it on my terms", Alec says walking away.
