Lexi’s POV.
My head was getting heavy by the evening, when Louis’ mum had come to collect Louis.
“Sweetie, are you sure you don’t want to come back to ours?” She asked again, kindly. I shrugged, and shifted my hand within mum’s grip. Louis, who had been pulling on his jacket, stopped to catch my eye. I knew he was worried about me; but I didn’t want to have his sympathy.
“Miss Freed? Your mother is not going to regain consciousness until the early hours of the next morning, it’d be best if you went home, got some sleep.” A nurse said from behind me. I started in surprise, and turned to face her. “You promise you will call me?” I asked her, letting Mrs Tomlinson gently pull me up from my seat. The nurse nodded, moving round so she could fiddle with the monitors that sat next to my mum.
“I promise.” She said with a said smile.
Louis took my free hand, as I bent down to kiss mum’s pale knuckles, before letting her chilly grip slide from my fingertips. I felt blind as we moved through the hospital, Louis’ guidance my only assurance we were going to the right place. It wasn’t until I was sat in the car, and Mrs Tomlinson had started up the ignition that I felt the tears rolling freely down my face.
“Hey, shhh, it’s alright.” Louis said softly, buckling my seatbelt for me. I moved away from him as he tried to put his arm around my shoulders, shifting my butt so I was half lying on the seat with my head resting on the window. Louis sighed, but left me be. I stared blankly out the window, not caring about the stares I was getting from my messy hair and now totally ruined make up.
My dad was still missing. Although, some whack job claimed to have seen him in London, nothing had been confirmed. And to be honest, I was terrified.
I wanted my Louis,
Louis’ POV.
“Louis!” Harry’s voice cried, as his hands cradled my chin, looking over my bruised face as I blearily opened my eyes. Immediately my head started spinning, and my vision became blurred.
“Whoa, Harry, give him some space.” Niall, I think it was Niall said, as he pulled Harry away from me. I sat up quickly as I realised it wasn’t my eyesight that was the issue, it was time.
“No, Niall, Harry, grab onto me. Now.” I ordered, with such seriousness in my voice they immediately obliged. “Where are Liam and Zayn?” I asked, as the whole view in front of me swirled and twisted, and gasps came from either side of me. “They- they were in the dressing room.” Choked out Niall, who was clutching my shirt tightly in terror. I groaned, and put my arms around the both of them, trying my best to comfort them, as the swirling effects died down, and the scene was once again composed.
Shaky breaths came from either side of me, as Harry and Niall slowly let me go, and I stood.
The room we had been in before was gone, and instead before me was a forest, the likes of which I’d never seen before. I swallowed thickly, and turned to the two younger boys, who were holding each other in fright.
“Guys,” I whispered, my mouth dry as I faced the reality of what I’d done. “I’m so, so sorry- this is all my fault. “
Their scared eyes looked to mine, trying to understand what was happening. Harry in particular, looked close to tears, as he let Niall go and stood up. “Louis, what happened?” He asked, terror strung in every syllable. I shook my head, trying to not let my own tears fall. I sat down abruptly, my head falling into my cold, shaking hands as my brain battled with itself to remember life before this change, versus what had happened in this life.
Niall’s voice was croaky as he spoke up; I could hear in his voice he was crying. But that wasn’t what hurt me the most. It was the disappointment in his voice as he said it that broke me.
“Louis, what did you do?”
Lexi’s POV.
I don’t remember falling asleep, but what I do know is I awoke in a room that was vaguely familiar, to the sweet, dulcet sounds of Louis’ snores. I rolled over and peeped over the edge of the mattress I was laying on to see Louis spread out like a starfish on the floor. I blinked myself into reality, as I realised I was asleep in Louis’ bed. I groaned quietly, and stretched out best I could on the bed, before pulling back the duvet and getting to my unsteady feet.
I walked clumsily to the bathroom and relieved myself, before stumbling blearily down the stairs to be greeted with a hug from Mrs Tomlinson.
“Morning sweetie.” She said, letting me go and turning back to the stove, where there were pans of eggs, bacon, French toast, pancakes, even- and I couldn’t believe this- FUNELL CAKES.
(Funnel cakes are amazing, a mix of donuts and pancakes)
“Wow, this looks amazing.” I said in awe, sitting myself down on a bar stool. She smiled and thanked me, just as two small bodies cannoned into the room.
“MORNING MUM!” The twin girls yelled, before running back up the stairs and into their room.
I just sat there, my mouth agape, before I shook my head and turned back to Mrs Tomlinson. She laughed kindly at my reaction to the twins (who I found out later were called Daisy and Phoebe) and put a plate in front of me.
My thoughts immediately went to the blissful times dad had gone missing before, and in celebration we’d have a smashing breakfast, just like this, and my appetite went. “It’s very kind of you, Mrs Tomlinson but-”
She cut me off. “Oh please, call me Jo. And before you even think about saying what I know you’re about to say- you need to eat. Louis told me you haven’t eaten anything other than a muesli bar in the last 2 days.” She said sternly, handing me a knife and fork, as Louis shuffled into the room, his duvet he’d been using wrapped around him in a cocoon. “Morning all.” He muttered, his eyes still droopy with sleep as he sat down next to me. “Morning love.” His mum greeted, her eyebrows raised in amusement as she slid a plate in front of him.
Her eyes then moved to me, and lingered in my gaze until I put a mouthful of funnel cake in my mouth. She smiled kindly, and moved back to sort out the washing up.
“Where’s Lottie and Fizz?” Louis asked his mum, looking around him as the twins raced past again, this time heading towards the living room. “Oh, they went to friends houses, and they have school today. These two are off because they are supposedly sick.” She said, sarcasm strung through her voice as she motioned towards the spastic girls. I chuckled slightly, and ate up some more.
“Did the hospital call?” I asked, as I finished my plate. Jo shook her head sadly, and took mine and Louis’ plates for the wash. “Sorry hun. But we’ll go and see her later on today, yeah?” She said kindly, and I smiled in thanks.
I just wanted to have her back safe and sound. Her, and my little baby brother or sister.
