Chapter 23
Lexi’s POV.
My heart was thumping as Dermot shook my hand and gestured for me to go on stage. I held the stand in my hand as I nearly tripped over my own feet, thanking no one in particular that it happened behind the curtains.
The judges smiled at me, as the audience clapped.
Cheryl was the first to speak.
“Hello.”
It was reassuring to me, I don’t know why. But it was.
“Hi.” I replied, a sheepish grin overcoming my face.
“What’s your name?” She asked.
“I’m Lexi Freed, and I’m 17 years old.” I said, just as I’d rehearsed.
“Right, and what are you going to sing for us today?” She asked, clasping her hands in a formal fashion in front of her.
“I’m going to be- er, singing…”
I trailed off as I noticed Louis in the crowd- he’d auditioned before me, and had gotten four yes’s. I gulped, as he smiled encouragingly.
I looked back at the judges, who were all waiting expectantly for my answer.
“Are you alright?” Cheryl asked, her face taking on a concerned expression.
My eyes widened, and my hands felt clammy.
“No. I’m not alright.” I said quietly, before turning my eyes back to Louis.
I had to tell him.
I had to tell him.
“I have to tell him.”
I unintentionally said aloud, right into the microphone that stood in front of me. By this time, everyone was muttering and murmuring.
“Tell who? What?” Cheryl asked, now looking confused. I looked back at the panel, who were starting to get a little edgy, I could see.
I looked at Louis one last time, before putting my hand to the mic. “I’m sorry.” Is all I said, before hastily making my way backstage, rushing past Dermot, past the small waiting room and kept on going until I was outside.
By this time, I was running, as fast as I could.
I heard voices, I recognized one as Louis, calling my name, but I didn’t stop.
That is, until, I turned a corner and realized where I was.
Louis’ POV.
We were all running after her- me, mum, and Hannah and Stan (my best mate in school), calling her name and trying to get her to stop.
Eventually she ran right into the park, where we’d had so many of our precious dates. And it just so happened there was a forest of trees.
I swore loudly, kicking a nearby dustbin, as Hannah and mum caught up, breathless. “She must have gone into the forest.” I said, scanning the area for any sign of her.
“You go after her, Louis.” Hannah said, resting herself on a bench that was next to the bin I’d kicked. I nodded curtly, before rushing off again.
It didn’t take me long to get within range of hearing, and the sound of sobbing from behind a bush told me where she was hiding. “Lexi, babe.” I said, making my way around it to find her curled in a ball sobbing her heart out. “What was that all about?” I asked, my voice soft as I sat down next to her, putting my arms around her. “L-Louis, I n-n-need to tell you something.” She stammered out.
I nodded, kissing her on the forehead. “What is it babe?” I asked, now getting quite concerned. She looked up from her arms and stared directly at me, her stunning green eyes red and raw from crying.
“You know I’ve been- sick?” She started, and I nodded to get her to continue. “Well- I wasn’t nervous.” She said, looking down at her feet. I frowned, starting to get really concerned with her now. “What’s wrong baby?” I asked, pulling her closer to me.
“Louis, I’m- I’m-” She couldn’t seem to say it.
“Lexi I can’t help unless you tell me what the problem is.” I said gently, gently tugging her face upwards so I could see it properly.
“Pregnant.”
Lexi’s POV.
There. I’d said it.
Now he’s going to leave me, go live his life of a popstar without the burden of a girlfriend with a baby, his baby.
“You’re pregnant?” He asked, his eyes wide with shock. I nodded, taking a slow, deep breath. “Yes.” I said quietly. Here it comes, I thought….
“Babe. That is so amazing.” He said, pulling me in again for a tight, tight hug. I was completely taken aback, but hugged him back.
“You’re- you’re not going to leave me?” I asked timidly. He pulled back and stared at me. “What? No! Of course not Lexi!” He exclaimed, kissing me full on the mouth. I kissed back, deep and passionate. “But we’re so young, how will we cope?” I asked, breaking off the kiss. He shrugged.
“I don’t know, but I promise you, I’ll be there, every step of the way. Even when I’m on X Factor, I will always be thinking of you.” He whispered, kissing me lightly.
