Pre-Thanksgiving

*Jessica accepts the video chat request *
Jess: "Hey babe. How are things going today?"

Emma: "Really good actually. I talked to my dad about the living situation."

Jess: "Yeah? How did that go?"

Emma: "Really good actually. We talked about it and turns out I'm not moving here after all."

Jess: "What? What happened? How come?"

Emma: "Well I told him I wouldn't be happy here, not when my school, girlfriend, friends,and team are in Boston. So he's gonna move his whole life,after Thanksgiving break, to Boston to be with me. And then maybe for college we can move to Seattle."

Jess: "Wow. Babe, I'm so happy to hear that. I can't wait to see you again and hold you. I miss you. Boston just isn't the same without you. Does your mom know he's moving here?"

Emma: "I don't think she does. Not yet anyway. But I don't really care. Me and her aren't on speaking terms. You know what happened."

Jess: "I do. And I am so sorry babe. Is there anything I can do from here?"

Emma: "You are doing it baby. Just be there for me and talk with me. How are the girls? And the team?"

Jess: "Everyone's good. We all miss you but we're all good."

Emma: "That's good. What about your family? How are they?"

Jess: "They're good. They miss you too. They said they don't know what to do without their daughter here." *giggling*

Emma: "Awe. I'm sorry baby. I don't mean to be better than you." *Laughing*

Jess: "It's okay." *smiling*

Emma: "I hate to do this baby but I gotta go. Something about spending quality time with family while everyone is here. I don't really know."

Jess: "Okay babe. I'll talk to you later. Text me if you need me. I know how your anxiety and stuff gets."

Emma: "Thanks baby. Talk to you later. Bye." *They hang up and Emma goes downstairs again*

*Carolyn, and Derek teach Emma how to cook and everyone eventually joins in and it becomes one big family activity. Everybody enjoys themselves.*

Emma: "Dad, how did you and mom meet?"

Derek: "Well. There's this bar across the street from the hospital, I don't know if you saw it or not, called the Emerald City Bar, but everyone calls it Joes Bar after the guy who owns it. His name is Joe. Anyway..I walked up to the bar and there she was, sitting at the bar, alone, looking beautiful so I walked up to her and started talking to her. Basically I told her I'm someone you have to know to love, and she said 'so if I know you I'll love you?' And I said yes and she just laughed this beautiful laugh and told me I was full of myself and I'll be honest with you Em, at the time yes I was full of myself. I had a god like complex. I thought I was better than everyone else. But then when your mom left after the hospital prom I was upset and grieving her loss. I couldn't handle her being gone. So I took some time off work and made the trip out east to see nana. And she knocked some sense into me, and then I went and checked on Amy for about a week and then I flew back to Seattle and got on with my life. I moved forward. I tried to make things work with Addison but that love that we once had was, is gone. So we agreed to divorce and remain friends. I actually operated on her brother a few years ago.

Emma: "Wow. That's... wow. I'm speechless. I have no words."

Derek: "Yeah? Haha. Try living it. It was very crazy, and hectic."

Emma: "I can only imagine. So uhmm. I want to talk about custody."

Derek: "What about it? You want to live with me still don't you?"

Emma: "Yes I do. I was just wondering how everything with the custody battle will go."

Derek: "Well once we get back to Boston, I'm going to hire a lawyer, and file for full custody. We'll have to go see a judge in court and if I'm right, because of your age I think the decision is up to you and then the judge will go with that and sign court papers stating who will have full custody of you."

Emma: "So it will be easy and quick?"

Derek: "Should be, yes. And then you can decorate your room at my house. And you can move your stuff in from your mom's house or if you want I will buy you all new stuff for my house. New stuff, new house, new start ya know."

Emma: "I'd like that a lot. Okay. Sounds easy enough."

Derek: "Let's hope it'll be that easy."
*smiling and kissing the top of Emma's head*
"Everything smells good girls."

Emma: "Thanks dad"
Carolyn: "Thanks Der."
