Surrogate Mother (Completed)

Chapter 2: Chosen

Afra and Jaeson were sitting in a secluded room set up as an office. They were waiting for the surrogacy specialist, Dr. Herring to arrive with a portfolio of women the Coventry's had to choose from.

Afra was really nervous. She was shaking her right leg up and down while fiddling with her thumbs in her lap. Jaeson looked down and noticed her nervousness and comforted her by rubbing her left knee, "Afra, baby, it's ok. Why are you so nervous?" He asked

"I'm just worried we might pick the wrong woman. What if you were right? What if we're not ready for this?" Afra said while she was shaken in her seat. She proceeded to get up out her chair and walk towards the door when Jaeson followed behind her to grab her by the arm gently.

"Babe, we can't just drop out of this now. I've already given them the money and Dr. Herring will be back any minute," Jaeson grabbed Afra by the hand and kissed her knuckles while he stared into her eyes to console her,"I thought this is what you wanted?"

"I do, but....I'm just a little shaken. That's all," Afra made her way back to her seat and Jaeson sat back down with her, "We both never did this before and I'm just scared things might go wrong."

"Nothing will go wrong. Besides, didn't Dr. Hicks suggest that this was the best clinic in Cloverdale?" Jaeson asked.

"Yeah," Afra said dryly while moving the piece of hair behind her ear that winged in the front of her face,"He did. I just want everything to go right."

Jaeson didnt respond and just looked at Afra with a facial expression of reassurance that everything would be ok. Before he could speak, Dr. Herring entered the secluded room.

"Ok, Mr. and Mrs. Coventry! I believe we're all set and I have the portfolio right here," Dr. Herring walked in with a Manila folder as he joined the couple at the desk he had them waiting by. He sat the folder on the desk and began to lay out the backgrounds and photos of every woman they had registered at the clinic,"Right now, we have ten women that fit the criteria that you requested. Between twenty-five and thirty-five years old, single, an illustrious educational background, and with a steady income."

Afra stared at the photos for awhile. She wasn't listening to anything Dr. Herring was saying. She was too intrigued in the photos that he laid out before her. She started with the lady with the long Brunette hair.

Shareice Renolds. Thirty-two, single, from Prospect City. Prospect City? That's the most hideous town ever. I would never raise my child there.

Afra pushes Shareice's profile aside and moved to the next one that laid beside hers while Dr. Herring continued to talk to her husband in the background.

Let's see. Daniella Pointer. Single, thirty-one, lives in Cloverdale. Check. An inspiring actress? That means she has no career. Next!

She pushed the profile over and continued on to the next one.

Rochelle Rodriguez. Thirty-two. Divorced. Lives in Cloverdale. Check. A school teacher at Cloverdale Elementary. That's not so bad. Has a 5 year old daughter, that means plenty of experience as a mom. She's very beautiful, young, successful as well. I have to have her!

Afra ignored the intriguing conversation between Dr. Herring and Jaeson and intruded while holding up Rochelle's photo for everyone to see,"I choose her!" She exclaimed. 

Dr. Herring and Jaeson looked at Afra in a shocking expression. It had only been ten minutes since they met Dr. Herring and she had already chose a surrogate.
