Dallon and Brendon had sorted all of the clothes and placed them into the empty drawers in Brendon's dresser, and they hung some up in the closet. When they finished, Brendon suggested that they go to Ray Toro's birthday party.
Ray was Mikey and Gerard's friend, and Brendon had met him on several occasions. He was a huge nerd, but he was cool. The party was at a local club, and didn't start until nine that night.
Dallon agreed after Brendon promised that he wouldn't get shitfaced.
**
Brendon was wearing Dallon's sparkly pants. They were still a little big for him, but they still looked fine. And Brendon was all for things that were sparkly.
"Dal, we've gotta get you another pair of these too, so we can match!" Brendon said on the way to the party, gazing in awe at the pants.
Dallon was amused by how entertained Brendon was by the pants, and he just smiled and said, "When we get a chance."
He parked the car in a small parking lot beside the club, called The Hub, and recognized a few vehicles that usually showed up when they hung around with friends. That meant that people they knew were here already.
They walked inside, having to flash their IDs to a man at the front door. Dallon spotted a few of their friends across the room, taking up a few tables that had been pushed together.
The lights in the building were different colors, and music played loudly as they walked towards the group who they were meeting. Ray was the first to spot them, and he smiled. "Brendon!" He said, his voice higher than Dallon had anticipated.
"Hey, Ray! Good to see you, man. This is Dallon, my boyfriend." Brendon said, and Dallon smiled and shook the curly-headed man's hand.
"Oh, cool." Ray said, casting a nervous glance to the bar. Dallon wondered what that was about, but he didn't question it as he followed Brendon over to meet Gerard.
Gerard looked up at them with a concerned look and whispered something to Frank before walking over to them. "Uh, Bren..." he said, also casting a nervous look at the bar. "I don't know if you should stick around long, uh.."
Gerard trailed off, leaving Brendon to stare at him in confusion. "How come? I haven't seen Ray in forever!"
"Yeah, uh... you haven't seen Ray since before.. you broke up with him." Gerard said. "Ray doesn't know about anything that happened."
"Is he here?" Brendon asked, sounding scared.
Dallon was confused. Who were they talking about? Why did Brendon sound scared? What was he missing?
Gerard cast a worried glance just behind Dallon's shoulder, and Dallon turned just in time to see a thin, brown-haired boy walk up to them. He looked young in the face, but Dallon knew he was probably around their age, because he'd just come back from the bar with a beer.
The boy stood between Gerard and Brendon, leaving Dallon to stand frozen in place, completely ignorant to what was happening. Gerard backed away, leaving the three of them.
"Brendon Urie." The boy said. His voice was.. odd. It was very boyish sounding, but commanding. Controlling.
Dallon took a step closer to Brendon, sensing that the smaller was scared for some reason. He didn't know why, the man before him didn't look very intimidating. But Dallon towered over almost everyone, so maybe he wasn't a good judge of that.
"R- Ryan. What are you doing here?" Brendon forced, pulling his face into a smile that turned into a grimace.
"I was invited." Ryan said.
It all clicked into place for Dallon; what Gerard had said and what he'd picked up on from the others. This was Brendon's ex. Ray must have not known they broke up, and invited him here. And apparently, Brendon didn't like the man anymore. Dallon was instantly on the alert, and he threaded his fingers through Brendon's descretely, although it didn't go unnoticed by Ryan.
The boy's eyebrows shot up, and he sent Brendon a questioning look. "New version of me already?" He asked, and Dallon would have taken offense if he weren't so concerned about how Brendon's hands were shaking. "Opposite of you, actually." Brendon mumbled.
Dallon was extremely confused. Why was Brendon so afraid? What did Ryan do to him to reduce him to this?
"Ryan, please just... leave us alone. I'm only here for Ray and my friends. I don't want any trouble..."
"You made it clear you wanted trouble the day you walked out on me!" Ryan interjected, his voice raised. Dallon wasn't the fighting type, but he knew that if Ryan kept up like this, he wouldn't hesitate to defend his boyfriend.
"I had good reason, and you know I did!" Brendon yelled back, his hand tightening around Dallon's. "You made me! It's your fault and you fucking know it!"
"What, all because you're a little bitch?" Ryan said, smirking at the insult. It was immature, but for some reason, it hit hard.
"Dude." Dallon said, taking a step forward. "Come on, we don't need to do this." He tried to sound intimidating, but for some reason, his anxiety was really kicking in.
Ryan rolled his eyes, and said, "So now you've gotta speak for him? Pathetic."
Dallon felt his blood boiling, but before he could retaliate, Brendon gave his hand a tug. "Dal, we can just leave. We don't have to stay."
Dallon turned around, and said, "No. We're staying. You wanted to come here, and this asshole isn't about to ruin tonight for you." He said, turning around to face Ryan again.
"You know what? Fuck it. Neither of you are worth my time." Ryan said before Dallon got a chance to speak. "I'll be on my way."
The thin man pushed his way past Brendon and Dallon, and towards the front of the building.
Dallon looked down at Brendon, his eyes wide. "What. The hell. Just happened." He asked flatly.
Brendon's mouth opened and closed, but no words came out. He eventually just sighed and buried his face in his hands, and said, "I'm gonna go to the bathroom. Clear my head. I'll be back in a second." He said, leaving Dallon to stare after him for a moment, before Gerard called his name. He walked over to the table where Gerard was sitting with Frank, and took a seat.
"What happened?" Gerard asked, and Dallon began to recite what took place as he waited for Brendon to return.
**
Brendon looked at himself in the mirror of the small, dirty bathroom. He'd been trying to forget about Ryan, and had been doing a good job, until the man showed up out of the blue. He splashed water on his face and ran his fingers through his hair, pushing away the thoughts of the thin man who had ruined his life.
He didn't have to think about Ryan. He had Dallon now, and Dallon was so much better.
The bathroom door opened, and Brendon ignored it; it was probably just someone who had to pee.
"Brendon."
Brendon spun around, and speak of the devil; Ryan stood right in front of him, a smirk on his lips.
**
Just so everyone knows, I DO know that Ryan isn't a bad guy in real life. As far I know, anyway.
I like Ryan and I respect him, he's just playing the part of an asshole for the purpose of the storyline. :)
