As it got closer to Christmas, Dallon got closer to exploding. Well, he felt that way, anyway.
The rose gold band he'd bought for Brendon was sitting untouched in his sock drawer, and with two weeks left until Christmas, he was getting more and more anxious.
They had decided to give the microwave to Dallon's mom and dad for Christmas, since they already had one of their own. Dallon was sure his parents had had the same one since he nineties, he figured it was time for a new one. Everything else, Dallon wrapped up for Christmas gifts for themselves.
That meant that they had to get gifts for all their friends. And each other, although Dallon insisted that Brendon not get him anything.
He was planning how he was going to propose. He thought that maybe he'd invite everyone over to give them their presents and eat, and do it then.
Dallon wanted to buy Brendon a piano for Christmas, but he didn't know if he'd be able to come up with the money without getting a job. He'd been making do with his graduation money and the same car he got for his 16th birthday for the past few years, but it was slowly dwindling. And no way was he going to ask Brendon for the money to buy him his own present.
He didn't really want to get a job though, because that would mean less time with Brendon and more time with people he didn't know.
Then he got an idea; why not sell some of his old stuff from his old house? He had several appliances and furniture he didn't need anymore, sitting in a storage unit Brendon rented.
He looked down at Brendon, who was currently half asleep in his lap. They had been watching The Nightmare Before Christmas on Netflix, and Brendon was a few seconds away from dozing off.
"Baby?" Dallon said. "Do you have a Christmas tree?"
"Pete broke my Christmas tree last year." Brendon said, sitting up and yawning. "But we can always go get a new one!"
"That's what I was thinking, you wanna go get one now?" Dallon asked.
"Hell yeah!" Brendon said, suddenly very awake. "Let me go change."
Dallon nodded and when Brendon left, he texted Pete.
Can you do me a favor? I have some furniture I want to sell. It's in your's and Bren's unit. Got anyone who might want it? Don't tell bren
When Brendon was done changing and fixing his hair, he walked back out to meet Dallon at the front door, and they left for Walmart.
"Real trees are a pain in the ass, and a mess. Let's get a fake one. One with built in lights, cause hanging lights on a tree is a pain in the ass." Brendon said while they drove.
"You're a pain in the ass." Dallon mumbled.
"You're a pain in my ass." Brendon said back, smirking at Dallon.
"You like it." Dallon said.
"Fuck you."
"I'm fairly sure that's what you referencing, yes."
"I hate you."
"I love you."
"I hate you, I love you, I hate that I love you.." Brendon sang dramatically, holding a fake microphone and gripping Dallon's shoulder with his other hand.
"God, you're lame." Dallon said.
"You're one to talk." Brendon teased.
They pulled into Walmart and Dallon parked close to the door, and looked over to Brendon. "You're waiting in the car." He said.
"You wish." Brendon said. "Just for that, I'm about to act so gay."
Dallon swallowed worriedly and got or of the car, following Brendon to the door, who was swinging his hips more than usual.
"What have I done." Dallon mumbled as they walked towards the Christmas section.
"God, I love Christmas!" Brendon sing-songed loudly, waving a hand flamboyantly as Dallon followed him with his head down. "Baby, let's get a big tree." He said.
Dallon nodded. "Alright, get whatever you want. But nothing insane."
"That one." Brendon said, pouting to the biggest tree with lights already built in. It seemed like a good choice to Dallon, so he nodded in agreement.
"Carry the box, baby, since your so big and strong." Brendon said loud enough to draw attention, and Dallon blushed. "Bren, stop."
"Why daddy?" Brendon asked, a shit-eating grin on his face as he looked up at Dallon.
"God." Dallon said. "Don't call me that."
"Why, does it turn you on, daddy?" Brendon said innocently.
"No. It doesn't. That's weird, Bren, just- let's get the tree and go." Dallon mumbled. He picked up the big box holding the tree Brendon wanted and hoisted it onto his shoulder, carrying it to the checkout aisle, where the cashier scanned it and Brendon paid. "Thanks." Dallon said to the girl behind the counter, and he carried the box to the car.
"Dal, you look hot." Brendon said.
"Shut up." Dallon said, a little frustrated with how Brendon acted in front of everyone in the store.
"Babe?" Brendon asked, stopping his walking. Dallon kept moving to the car, opening the door and tossing the box into the back seat.
"What." He said flatly, as Brendon walked up, catching up after he'd stopped.
"A-are you mad at me?" Brendon asked, his voice soft.
"A little." Dallon said bluntly, although it was hard when Brendon sounded that small and upset.
"I'm sorry." Brendon said sincerely. "I shouldn't have done that. I know you aren't ready for people to see, you know.."
"I forgive you, baby." Dallon said, giving in. He couldn't stay mad at Brendon.
Brendon smiled. "I love you."
"You're a little shit." Dallon mumbled.
"Huh? How?" Brendon asked.
"You're too cute for me to stay mad at you." Dallon answered.
Brendon blushed and smiled, and kissed Dallon's cheek as they drove home.
When they got close to their driveway, a car Dallon didn't recognize was backing out. "Must have had the wrong address." Dallon said, looking at Brendon.
But Brendon's face made him think otherwise. His face was white, and he was shaking a little, his eyes glued to the black car that was now driving past them.
"Baby?" Dallon asked.
"That's Jon Walker's car. Ryan's friend." Brendon said.
