Dedicated to lonelyafternoons because she is one of my favorite authors in the whole world and an overall lovely person.
"Hello. My name is Victor and I'm the one in charge of what goes on behind the scenes." The man in front of Maddie and I smiles and introduces himself. "Please, have a seat."
Maddie looks at me and I nod to let her know it's alright and that she can sit. We both sit across from Victor, who has what seems like an assistant standing behind him.
"Oh, I'm sorry. This is my assistant, Alex. Are you okay if he stays while we discuss some of the details of your trip? It would be a good learning experience for him." Victor says and I smile and nod. "Of course. What will we be discussing anyway?"
"Ah there it is. The big question. Well, I hope you both know that we are glad to have you on this trip with us. However, there are a few things that you should know and a few rules for you before you leave tomorrow."
"Of course." I reply, expecting rules about being on tour with a famous boy band.
"Shall we begin?" Victor asks, and I nod my head.
"Okay, well before the rules, we will go through some warnings. First of all, your life is no longer private. Any social media is now going to filled with fans and things about the tour. You can chose to make another account, but it must not reveal who you really are or that could be bad publicity. We will not control what you post on anything, however we do have the authority to ask you to take it down if we feel it is not going to go over well with the fans." I thought back to when I first figured out that Maddie had won the contest. My twitter had blown up with all these people requesting to follow me and saying congratulations. I am going to take a wild guess and say that my Instagram is the same way. Everything Victor said made perfect sense, even the part about having to keep another account private. How would it look to people if I had a known other account that I only let certain people follow? "That sounds okay." I finally speak up as Victor let the information sink in.
"We also need to warn you about fans. Even though you both are not part of the band, fans of the boys will also become fans of you. That means you are at risk of getting mobbed by fans, and is also why we have an assigned bodyguard to stay with you most of the time. Because you are both new to this, I think you may need to see for yourselves what some groups of fans may look like." Victor pulls out a few images from a folder and I am immediately reminded of all the cop shows I've ever watched where a suspect is being interrogated and the cop pulls out pictures meant to intimidate the suspect into confessing. I look down at the pictures and am shocked. The first one depicts thousands of girls at a gate trying to get in, and the bodyguards are barely able to keep up. The next picture shows a fan who got her one arm and leg stuck in metal bars trying to get through to see the boys. The third one shows Harry almost on the ground with a bunch of fans surrounding him trying to touch and hug him. The one after that depicts an ambulance pulling up as what looks to be a fight broke out between fans and there was one fan passed out on the ground. The last picture shows a bodyguard who turned his back to deal with a threatening fan. Behind the bodyguard, a fan jumped on Liam's back and was holding on for dear life.
"Oh my god." I finally react to the pictures put in front of me. "I've seen fans, but never this bad..." Maddie says with wide eyes as she looks down at the images.
"While these are extreme cases of crazed fans, the threat is out there and we want you to understand that leaving without a bodyguard can put you at a higher risk of getting mobbed like this." Victor explains gently while carefully putting the photos back into the folder. "As long as you have your bodyguard with you, you should be safe from anything like this. We don't want to scare you, but rather warn you and prepare you for what could happen."
