We all sat in shock for a few minutes, before my dad broke the silence.
“I am no expert in girl’s feelings, but maybe you should go after her.”
My mom looked at me and said, “Maybe Niall should take this one... He needs the practice.”
I just nodded before heading upstairs. I knocked on the spare bedroom door, and softly said “Maddie, it’s Niall. Please let me in.”
“No! Go away!” She yelled, although I could hear the hurt in her voice. I didn’t understand why she was hurt. I just told her I was going to adopt her. Then in hit me. Oh my god. That is why she is crying. She doesn’t want me to adopt her.
Well, if this wasn’t the most embarrassing moment of my life, then I really don’t know what is.
I decided to talk to her anyway, because I didn’t feel like facing Kate, Sam, and my parents.
I slowly opened the door. She was lying in her temporary bed, with her face in the pillow crying. I sat down at the foot of the bed. “Maddie,” I said, “Why are you crying?”
She didn’t say anything.
I sat there for at least fifteen minutes before she calmed down and spoke up. “You didn’t have to be so mean.” She said, looking at me. “That was just plain rude to joke about that.”
It took me another minute or so to realize what she was talking about. She thought I was joking with her when I said I wanted to adopt her. Maybe it’s not me after all. I guess it made sense, though. We were bantering before I said it, so maybe she just thought I was joking. There is only one way to find out.
“Maddie, I was serious when I said I wanted to adopt you. That is what I came here for. I am so sorry if you thought I was just playing a cruel joke on you. I would never do that. But now it’s up to you.”
She started to smile. “Maddie, would you like to live with me?”
“Yes!” She threw her arms around me and squeezed me tighter than my mom did. And that is saying a lot. After she let go, she started racing around the room, getting her clothes and things that she brought to my parents’ house. The rest was still at her old house.
Once she had her bag full, we headed down the stairs. Sam was the first to spot us. “I guess she said yes?” He asked with a smirk on his face.
“No.” Maddie and I both said sarcastically at the same time. I am starting to wonder if she really is my child. We sure do act the same. I took Maddie’s one bag out to my truck, while she double checked she had everything. We said bye to my parents, and Maddie thanked them for letting her stay with them. Of course, they said it was no problem.
Kate, Sam, Maddie, and I all fit in my truck. Since I have the extended cab version, there are two seats in the front, and three in the back. Sam and Kate wanted to be there when Maddie saw her new room, so I headed back to my flat.

As soon as we got there, Maddie ran to the door. She was so excited, but who could blame her. She is getting to see her new house for the first time. I lug her bag out from the truck and pull out the keys to my flat. I toss them to Kate so that she can open the door for us.
Sam guides Maddie to the living room, while Kate helps me set Maddie’s bag and pillow in her room.
After we give Maddie the full tour, we finally come to her room. It was kind of like the moment of truth for Sam, Kate and I. Before I could even say anything, Maddie flings open the door.
“Oh my god!”
Sorry for the boring chapter guys. Well, at least you found out why Maddie was upset..... And another cute Liam! That is going to be my 'thing' now. posting cute pictures of the boys in hats. :P Liam is first up! ;)
