Chapter 2 ~ I Spit My Tea Onto My Bestfriends

It has been a week since my aunt and uncle were arrested. So far, no one from my family has stepped up. My mom is starting to worry that no one will. I know this is hard for her because she would never want anyone from her family to have to go into foster care. I wouldn't wish that on anyone in my family either.

Sam and Kate ask if there is any news on her situation every day. They are definitely up to something. We are about to go to the mall, so maybe I will finally figure out what they have been planning.

I get up from my spot on my couch, and head to my room the get ready. I quickly take a shower, and then throw on a pair of skinny jeans and a white shirt that Kate tells me I look good in. I style my hair in front of the mirror then walk back downstairs. I sit back down on my couch and wait for Kate and Sam to get here.

Ten minutes later, I get a text from Sam saying that they are waiting outside. I slip on a pair of white converse and head out the door to meet them.

Since the mall is only a few blocks from my flat, we decide to walk instead of drive. It was the perfect temperature to be outside. As we were walking, Sam was checking his twitter nonstop.

Sam is kinda famous on twitter. He has thousands of followers. I don't really know why he is so famous. It must be how funny he is, or just his overall charm. Either way, he has boy and girl fans alike. Since Kate and I are his best friends, he tweets about us all the time. That explains why I have over twelve thousand followers. I barely even tweet once every three days. Sam, on the other hand, tweets at least ten times a day. Right now, he just tweeted "Going to the mall with Niall and Kate. But I'm not going to tell you little stalkers which mall. ;) #Hangingw/besties".

I just laughed and told him to put the phone down. He shrugged and slipped his IPhone into his pocket just as we reached the doors to the mall.

We shopped for about three hours before we needed a break. We walked into the little café in the mall and sat down at a table near the back. I set my Abercrombie bag down on the bench beside me as Sam and Kate sit across from me. (The main reason I shop at Abercrombie is for the bags. I mean, who doesn't want to see all that sexiness?) Sam and Kate seem to be excited about something. I guess this is when I will learn what they have been planning for a week.

Before they can say anything though, the waitress comes over and asks us what we would like. We all order green teas. She smiles and walks away. I turn to look at my two best friends. "So, what did you want to tell me? You two have been acting strange all week. I am waiting for an explanation." They both sit there for a minute, just looking at me. Then they burst out laughing.

Kate was the first one to calm down. She looked up at me. "You know us too well. What gave it away?" Before I could answer her, the waitress came back with our teas. We thanked her and she walked away again, leaving us to our conversation.

"Well, first off, you guys would not stop asking about Maddie all week. Then," I looked at Kate. "You had this look in your eye like you had a great idea. Not to mention, Sam said that he wasn't planning anything, yet." I finish. "Crap. You heard that?" Sam looked a bit embarrassed. "Yeah. You really need to work on your 'muttering things to yourself' voice. It is quite easy to pick up." I smirk. Sam just looks down and mutters "F you." I just laugh because I can still hear him perfectly fine.

I turn my attention back to Kate and raise my eyebrow at her, still waiting for the answer to my question. She looks like she is trying to find a way to tell me. I take a sip of my tea, not realizing how much of a mistake that was. Kate finally looks up and says, "Sam and I think that you should adopt Maddie."

I spit out my tea and my mouth hangs open. "What?"
