When I made the decision to take in Maddie, I made a promise to myself. I promised that no matter what, she will always come first, and I will always care for her and tend to her needs. Even if it really sucks for me.
That is why I am leaning over Maddie's shoulder on her desk in her room. She is so excited that it takes her four tries just to log onto her laptop. She quickly types in the URL, and I am not even surprised to see that she memorized the whole thing. Turns out she already had most of it filled out. Really, the only thing left was my signature and email address. I typed my name in the first box, and email address in the second. Then I stood back and watched as Maddie clicked the submit button. Afterwards, she turned to me.
"Now go check your email, and verify that you agreed on the terms and that it was, in fact, you who signed the form, and not me." She demanded, attempting to push me towards my own room.
"Okay, okay. I am going." I said and put my hands in the air while walking towards my bedroom. I was surprised to see that Maddie didn't follow me, but then I heard a squeal and realized that she must be telling her friends that I finally agreed to sign it. I rolled my eyes at her girly-ness before flopping down in front of my own computer.
I quickly logged on, before opening up my email. I clicked the only unread email in my inbox, which was of course the verification email. I figured I might as well read the Terms and Conditions, while I was at it. Plus, I didn't really have anything else to do.
As I scrolled, I stopped at a paragraph titled: For Applicants Under the Age of 18
I began to read the paragraph underneath:
All applicants under the age of 18 require a parent or guardian who is above the age of 21 to accompany him/her during the trip. This guardian will be responsible for the winning applicant at all times during the year tour. If an applicant under the age of 18 fails to have a guardian, he/she becomes illegible to accompany the band during the tour. No exceptions will be made, under any circumstances.
Boy was I glad that there was a one in three million chance of winning this competition. The only thing that I could think of that would be worse than Maddie going on a year trip with One Direction would be if I had to tag along.
I skimmed through the rest of the Terms and Conditions, and found nothing else really worth checking out. Finally, at the end of the page, there was a small confirmation button. I clicked it and it took me to the sign up page that Maddie had been on and said:
Thank you for applying to win the one year trip the tour with One Direction!!!!
Below that, in smaller letters it said:
Remember, many will enter, but only one will win. You may not apply more than once. If you do so, you will be ineligible to participate.
I logged off of my email after that and closed my laptop lid.
Well, at least that is over.
