I try to ignore the occasional glares from Jason and dig into my meal, but he sneers at me one more time, and I explode red.
I bang my fork on the table, startling him.' Listen here you dumbwit!, you treat me as I'm something that a dog left behind at your door, and I DONT like that , so just let me go because I'm perfectly fine fending off for myself, and I don't need some random boy who I don't know, promising to keep me safe when he thinks I'm the dumbest of the dumb, so let me make my point clear, LET ME GO!' I finish off with a glare. Man, I have got to quit with the sudden bursts of anger.
Jason looks at me for a second before falling to the floor laughing.
I fume.' Are you kidding me!'
Jason sits back up, wiping tears from his eyes.
'firstly, yes I am kidding you, secondly I'm not a dumbwit, and thirdly there's a reason I treat you like that'
My curiosity grows.'what's the reason?'
He smirks.'Nothing you know of '.
'Come on, tell me!' I whine like a little kid. It's funny how my mood changes like that.
His shell cracks and
His face takes on a sad expression, actually the first time I've seen him like that.Jason pauses
' My name.......it means the healer''What's that got to do with the reason you hate me?' I ask.
He scowls.'Will you be patient?'
'Okay, okay, calm down' I say as I hold up my hands in a surrendering gesture.
He continues.' I would heal people, It was a really rare power, but once I used it in the wrong way, and.........' his voice drifts off.
' And?' I coax.
' My parents suffered for it, and it changed me completely, I just couldn't be generous to anyone anymore.....the pain would always be there'
I snort. 'If you were generous, everyday would be a tea party'
I wither under his glare and I begin to feel guilty.
'Look, I'm sorry, but it's just that I don't like being treated that way' I say as I rub my arms.
'its fine -' he's about to say something more, when he cuts himself off and shakes his head.
His gaze softens.'I'll try to be nice to you though'
I smile.' are you kidding me this time?'
'Nope'.
I laugh , as he disappears down the corridor. I stare at the spot where he'd just been then continue eating. Don't judge....I'm hungry.
