I come out from behind the sofa, my blood boiling.
'And who do you think gave you the right to come here?' I growl.
Jason bites his lip. 'Midnight, listen, I'm honestly really sorry, just like you were forced to murder, I was forced to betray you........'
He winces at the word 'betray'.I'm still angry, but for some reason I'm forced to believe him...even if it isn't exactly what I wish. I try to argue with myself, but I just can't get myself to agree.
I take a step back and cross my arms defiantly.' Fine, do whatever you want but I won't forgive you, no matter what.' I try to ignore most of what I said.
Aiden stands beside me and glares at Jason. When Jason sees him, his eyes widen.
' You........ you escaped banishment?'
Aiden rolls his eyes.' Yeah, so?'
Jason shakes his head and turns to me .' Why are you living with these people?'
I glance back at my brother then Jason.'They're my parents.'
Jason's jaw drops and despite the tension in the air, I laugh.
He gathers himself and nods respectfully at them.' And who's the guy next to you?'
'No one special, except maybe my brother' I smirk.
Jason forms an 'o' with his mouth.
'Perhaps you'd like to come in' says my mother.
Jason hesitates but enters and sits stiffly on a chair, while me and Aiden remain standing.
'Anyone want snacks?'
I can tell Jason's trying to resist, but I know he's a got a pretty big appetite.
'yes please ma'am' he says nervously.
Soon my mother comes with a plate of cookie and Apple slices. Yeah, she's the healthy type.
Jason munches on cookies while I prepare myself to ask a question.
'Jason, there's two things I need to ask you'
He looks up and stares.
I take a deep breath.' You told that you've been called a nerd before.......so who was it?' My brother snickers.
He look dumb struck but answers.' you know, you weren't the first person I was sent to. My father sent me to usually take someone to his side, and I decided on you since you were all over the papers, but before you was another.....girl...her name was Ava and, well because of me she was banished' He looks down at the floor again.
' And the other question' I continue.
'when I fainted, for some apparent reason, you didn't bother to heal me. Why was that?'
My parents look back and forth between me and Jason, sensing the tension.
He sighs.'When you fainted, I didn't want to heal you because I was trying to warn you not to trust me. I never wanted you to be sent to my father.'
Somehow I believe that he's telling the truth and I decide to forgive him even though I said I wouldn't.
'So, you left your father for good?' Aiden asks.
Jason nods.
'Well, welcome to the group' I mutter.
And for a brief moment, the smallest of smiles plays on Jason's lips.
