That night, my mother came to say goodnight which got me pretty embarrassed.
She sat by my bed, stroking my hair.
' You know, I think you should give this Jason a chance, I can tell he really means it ' she says.
I sigh.' Mother, you don't understand. Can you imagine how it felt like when I was betrayed? I thought I finally had someone who I could trust and someone who understood me perfectly. But then all of a sudden he just left me in the dust.'
My mother doesn't say anything, except smile and leave the room.
I stare up at the ceiling, a jumble of emotions clouding my mind. Then I turn around to face the door and see a flash of gray eyes, just before they disappear.
::::::::::::::::
I forced myself out of bed, got dressed and headed downstairs to have breakfast at the dinner table.
Every one was already there.
'Finally up?' Called my brother as he came to hug me, and I returned it.
' I guess so' I say as I dig into sausages.
Jason nods at my parents then glances at me.
'Midnight' He says.
I look up from my food, half a sausage sticking out of my mouth. I gulp it down.
' I'm taking you on a walk around town'
I spit out the orange juice I was drinking , my mother frowns but I ignore her.
'In case your dumb enough to realize, we're the most wanted fugitives right now and you want us to take a walk in the park when there's dark guard's milling around the whole place, and all in broad daylight!' I shout.
Jason raises an eyebrow.' You really think I haven't thought this out, don't you?'
I nod slowly, feeling stupid. Of course he would've thought this out.
He hands me a bag and I open it to reveal a beanie and glasses.
' You're gonna be dressed as a guy today, someone named Matt.' Then he smirks and adds.
' And you're going to have to wear the glasses since they're revenge for calling me a nerd.'
I roll my eyes but tuck all of my hair in my beanie and wear the glasses, wrinkling my nose with distaste.
Jason himself wears a cap and sunglasses.
' We're two brothers named Matt and Jay, and we work in a clothing factory.' Jason tells me.
I shrug and wave goodbye to my family and follow him outside.
Crazy literally spelt our situation.
Outside the air had an unusual chill in the air, while there were few people around.
I suddenly tensed. Guards were everywhere.
Jason gripped my arm and shook me.
' Midnight, act natural!' He hissed.
I gulp and follow him through a street, taking shallow breaths.
Suddenly I felt a heavy hand on my shoulder and turned to see a guard sneering, looking just like when I first saw Jason.
He holds up a small paper, showing a grainy photo of me and Jason in the forest, running from the mutant tiger.
'Excuse me, but have you seen these two fugitives? A great reward will be offered for the capture of them' He says in a gruff voice.
I hold breath and feel Jason tense beside me.
Jason trys for a smile.' I'm sorry sir, but no we haven't seen these two, for we are only humble workers'.
The guard squints at us but then turns on his heel and leaves, grumbling.
Despite the coldness, I wipe sweat off my brow.
We continue walking.
'So, what did you call me for?' I ask.
Jason sighs heavily.
' Midnight, I know you probably hate my guts right now and I'm sure you don't trust me entirely either, but please........, I'm begging you for another chance.'
I stare at him for a while, shock written all over my face.
I could tell he definitely meant it.
'Jason, listen, I know you're really sorry right now, but do you know how hard it was for me to cope when you betrayed me?'
He winces.' Okay, I have a confession to make, last night I was...... uh.. sort of spying on you'
I smile.' I noticed '.
He then continues talking.' I need you to answer, do you accept me as a friend? I know I've been horrible to you, but I ...... I really mean it this time'
I stare at the floor, and before I can stop them, tears roll down my cheeks and I hug Jason, really needing someone at that moment.
'Yes, I do accept' I whisper into his shoulder and I feel him release a deep breath.
