First thing going through my mind...

''Mommy! I don't want to get up yet! Taste the rainbow!''

''What?!'' Asked Elizabeth, who had just kept from falling out of the boat.

''Never mind! What is that?!'' I pointed to the humanoid figure who caused the noise. He was surrounded in a cyclone of water. He... It's body was a deep black-purple. Sparks flew from its eyes, and it turned to me. It blasted me with a torrent of water. This dude was not happy.

''What is it?!'' Asked Elizabeth. It was creating huge waves that crashed into our little boat. I tried to remember everything my grandfather taught me. Then it popped into my head.

''It's a storm spirit! They created terrible storms and target people who cross over their body of water. They each represent a different body of water!''

''No?! Really?! That's a little obvious!''

''What do we do?'' I asked as it continued to blast us with water.

''I don't know! Do something!''

So I did. I jumped out of the boat and levitated myself over the water. It was hard, as the spirit was fighting for control of the water. It didn't make him happy. He turned to me and I drew my sword and charged. I swung at him but he pushed me away with a huge wave. I surrounded myself in my own little cyclone of water.

''How do you like that?!'' I yelled. It screamed, like someone drowning in water, a terrible sound. I charged at it again, and swung, but my sword when right through it. It disappeared in the water, and re-appeared behind me. Before I could turn around, I was blasted again with water.

''I am never swimming again...'' I mutter. I hit him with divine magic, hoping that will work, but once again, it goes right through. All it does is make him\it even more unhappy.

''We don't have to do this!'' I yell at him. No response. Shame I didn't learn storm spirit language. I try again to swing at him, which only comes out with several failed attempts. I jump back in the boat.

''No luck...''

''It looks like it.'' I can't think of what to do. I'm getting tired. Before I can do anything, a huge hand of water grabs me and drags me down.

''Nicholas!'' Screams Elizabeth. And she throws one of her knives at the monster. This only distracts it for a second, but it's enough. The hand evaporates and I fall into the water. Still not good. It's hard to swim up with the current. I struggle for control of the water, and am able to slow the current and swim up. I levitate on the water again, turning it's attention back to me. It really must hate me now...

I struggle to think, to think of some way just to make it go away for a while. Then I get it.

''Elizabeth!''

''Yes?''

''Stay in the boat!''

''That's what I'm trying to do!'' I need to get out of the water too. I try to get back into the boat, but the spirit grabs me. I break free with a blast of heat off my body. It screams and lets go. I surge to the boat and raise my sword in the air.

''This is going to hurt... A lot!'' I summon a bolt of lightning, which hits my sword. Ouch. I point my sword at the spirit, and release the lightning. BANG! All I can hear is the gargled screams of the spirit. All I can see is the water. My hair stands on end from the electricity. Picture that for a moment... Now get serious again... I feel terrible. Water flies all over the place. I struggle to maintain my footing Then... There's no more noise. No more water. Everything turns calm. The rain stops falling. The lightning stops flashing. The spirit is gone.

''Elizabeth! Are you okay?!''

''I'm fine! You?''

''Just a little shook up.''

''What'd you do?''

''Hit it with lightning. That was the explosion. You sure you're okay?''

''I'm alright!''

''Good.''

''Whoa! Look!'' She point off to the horizon. The clouds have parted, to reveal dawn sunshine, and off on the horizon I can see the faint sight of mountains...

What'd you think? We're almost done the first obstacle. Now it's time for the Permafrost Peaks...
