Disclaimer: This story idea is relatively popular and a fun topic to write about, so no nasty comments please. All characters and ideas in the story are all mine and original. If they happen to seem like another story's...I'm sorry that's sheer couincidence. [to go on record, I've read Walter Bros & Mclane Bros...That's it.]

Prologue

"I'm really sorry, Alyssa. And I know there's really nothing I can say that will make this any...easier."

Mrs. Reese stood in my doorway, a look of sorrow and regret swirling in her eyes. I could see it. The Reese family members were like an open book. Each one just as easy to read, or so I thought, in the beginning.

An awkward tension filled the room as I finished zipping up my last luggage.

I approached the door and handed Mr. Reese the heavy bulging box of clothes, grimacing at the weight of it.

"Your...Dad. He wasn't exactly emotionally stable after what happened to your-", Mrs. Reese grinded her teeth a little and looked away, not sure what to say.

I looked up and gave my brightest smile. "It's fine. After Mom died, things were never really the same. I'm glad you guys were kind enough to take me in.", I smiled once more.

Mrs. Reese took this as immediate entrance into my life and gave me a hug. "Oh, honey, I can't even tell you how much I've always wanted a daughter!"

"What about Teddy?", I questioned.

"She's in that stage where she goes against everything I say and do.", she laughed, a playful look in her eyes.

I laughed, mentally acknowledging that I was never allowed Teddy's luxory, continuing out towards the car.

I piled my luggages in and got into the back seat, texting final good-byes to my closest friends.

Good-bye California, Hello Massachusetts.

The weather that time of year was still beautiful, and as the Reese parents and I trudged off an awful plane ride, we walked into the airport terminal, searching for the boys.

Apparently, their children had all conveniently forgotten that their parents had left town for a couple days and decided not to show up.

Mr. Reese called a cab and I stared out the window as we rode home, in silence.d

A few minutes before we entered their perfectly trimmd and neat white-picket-fence neighborhood, Mrs. Reese began asking me questions.

"So, Alyssa...How were things back at home?"

"Fine.", I answered nervously.

"You still playing tennis?", She asked.

"Yeah."

"That's good. And what about soccer?", she turned a little in her seat.

"Yup.", I answered.

"Good...Good. Well, GW has really competitive girl's athletic programs so I'm sure you'll be happy with the sports here.", She spoke, smiling directly at me.

"That's...good.", I answered.

"Were you doing okay in school?", she asked curiously.

"Yeah. Mostly A's.", I answered.
