Chapter 24

"So?"
"So, what?", I answered, flustered.
"Are you going to stop being annoying?"
"Never.", I smirked.
"Fine, then i'm leaving-"
"No! Alex, stay.", I pleaded.
She looked at me through her lense. "Then stop messing around and tell me what happened!"

"Get off me", I managed, my voice a mere croak.
"You don't mean that." His hot breath fanned over my face.
"Yes, I really do."
"Why don't you do something about it, then?", his eyes scanned my face, pausing for the briefest moment on the bottom half of my face. So brief that I wasn't sure if I had imagined it.
"I asked you to get off of me, didn't I?", I stared defiantly. Too defiantly. I felt him shift above me. Oddly, I found myself holding my breath.
"A bit of a weak response, don't you think?" He looked down at my body. "If I didn't know any better, I'd say you wanted me on top of you."
"Don't flatter yourself.", I nearly spat instinctively.
"Sorry, unless you prefer to be on top?" His jaw clenched as I shifted under him.
"What are you two doing in there?" A boyish tone came from outside as a loud unzipping sound echoed from the front of the tent.
We looked at each other frantically. Finn rolled off me and scrambled to turn the lamp light off with his foot.
"Hello?" Dustin whispered in the darkness from the outside of the tent.
"Don't say anything. Mom didn't want you sleeping in any of our tents." Finn whispered, pushing me to the end of his side of the tent and haphazardly throwing a blanket over me.
"What? Why?"
"Gee, I couldn't possibly figure out why." He rolled his eyes.
I gulped, "Oh. Right."
I could hear someone clumsily crawling into the tent. I could not fathom how Dustin, Finn, and I would all fit in what already had previously felt like a very small tent.
"What's happening?" Dustin slurred loudly in Finn's general direction. He sounded drunk.
Finn nudged me further into the corner. "What do you mean?" he pulled the blanket strategically over himself as well. "What happened to that girl you went to go sneak away with?"
Dustin huffed. "Her parents didn't see me sneak in but they heard us talking."
"Well what were you talking so much for, you rookie?", Finn chuckled.
"I don't know! We had a little bit to drink and I forgot to be quiet."
"You're an idiot." Finn laughed again.
"Is someone else in here? I swear I heard you talking to someone." Dustin whispered.
"Just your drunken delusions" Finn played off. "Why don't you lay off the alcohol for a while, kid."
I could hear the frown in Dustin's voice. "Whatever. I'm going to sleep."
I felt Finn release a sigh of relief and his body heave down next to mine. "You can sneak out as soon as he's out." Finn's whisper tickled my ear.
