Chapter 13:

The First Day

~~

"Well I still think you're really pretty.", he smiled shyly.

"No you don't.", I laughed, pushing him aside.

"No, really, I do.", he trapped me between his two arms, leaving me pushed up against a locker, gulping.

"What about-"

And then he was leaning in.

Closer,

Closer,

His lips almost grazed mine when suddenly-

"ALYSSA, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?", Someone threw my door open. The face of an angel. His eyes a vibrant shade of sea-blue. The same face that happened to belong to the mysterious person from my apparent dream.

Only a dream.

Damn.

I blinked a few times, finally drifting down from  my own thoughts, and squinted at him. "Why are you all dressed up?" I eyed his khakis and nice shirt.

"Um, well I wasn't exactly planning to go to school in my PJs. At this rate, I'm guessing you are?", he looked expectantly at me.

"What?"Then something 'dinged' in my head as a light bulb went off.

"NOOOO.", I hollered, looking around frantically.

Grabbing my phone, the screen flashed on.

7:23 a.m.

"When are you leaving?", I asked in a hurry, as I threw the covers off and began sifting through my closet, hoping I could manage an outfit that was relatively nice.

"7 minutes.", he glanced down at his phone, laughing a little as he tapped away at the screen, most likely texting someone.

"When does school start?", I asked, panicked, hoping I wouldn't hear something I secretly knew I would.

"7:45.", his voice sounded a little husky. He had obviously just woken up a little while ago.

My heart dropped.

"It's like a twelve minute drive.", He answered, still leaning there in my doorway.

"Clay, I don't think you understand. I need more time.", I answered, still haphazardly tossing random items of clothing on the ground.

"Alright, well I'll see you around. Be ready in a few minutes if you want a ride."

I looked in the mirror, taking in a deep breath, as I swallowed the last bits of my muffin-almost choking, might I add.

My skin was looking blotchy and I could see a multitude of tiny breakouts.

Dammit.

Damn mother nature for relentlessly cursing me with bad skin and magnifying the effect everytime my monthly gift never ceased to come around.

I tried to cover the bags under my eyes, but failed.

Finally giving up, I rapidly swiped on some mascara and smiled happily at my green, re-awakend  eyes. After pulling on some army green skinny jeans and my favorite warm, black cardigan, I deemed myself ready.

Checking my hair, I thanked the lords, in the sky above, that my hair had managed to look okay by itself. Very uncharacteristic of it, actually.
