Chapter 11

Cheese & Couple's therapy

I mumbled profanities to myself as I marched up to Finn at the door, pushing the sticky note into his chest and dragging my feet over to his car.

To my surprise, Todd was already sitting patiently in the back.

“Hi Todd. You sure are being a good boy.”, I laughed, patting his head.

“Mommy told me I would need to be. Otherwise you and Finn might fight and lose me somewhere.”, He blinked innocently.

I laughed sarcastically.

I watched as Finn and his 6’2” glory came walking toward his car.

“Just cause I can put up with you and play nice sometimes doesn’t mean I want to be spending the afternoon with you buying groceries.”, he sighed dramatically, running his hand through his still messy yet perfect-looking hair.

How could someone have such nice hair and be such an a-hole?

“Whatever. Let’s just get this over with.”, I sighed, defeated.

“And what’s up with you? Do you have some sort of sweatshirt fetish? Harvard and Stanford sweatshirts all the time? Do you have an ivy league fetish or something? Do you really think you’re that smart?”, he spoke lightly, starting up his car.

I glared coldly at him.

“What?”, he asked.

“My mom and dad went to Stanford and Harvard. They met during college, but they managed the long distance relationship. It’s probably something you wouldn’t truly understand, but it’s called love. And frankly, I don’t’ understand either and I kind of think it’s a load of bull.”, I paused, making sure he was listening.

He was looking at me with sheer horror and shock, realizing he hit a sensitive issue.

“And yes, for the thousandth time, I’m not some dumb blonde. I managed a 4.0 unwaited GPA sophomore and freshmen year. So do I think I might stand a measly chance at getting into an ivy league? Harvard or Stanford, even? Yeah, call my crazy, but I was kind of hoping.”, I answered, anger and annoyance dripping from every last word.

The rest of the ride was filled with an awkward silence and tension that could have been cute with a knife.

“Finn. We need Nicotta and Mozzarella cheese. Preferably shredded.”, I recited, looking for the different cheeses in the limited selection.
