Chapter 10

Sunday Mornings

Gurgle,

Rinse,

Spit.

“Minty Fresh.”, I smiled to myself in the mirror, wincing at my unsightly reflection.

I began brushing some of my hair back, trying to manage its’ unkemptness.

“Alyssa!”, I heard someone banging. A deeper voice so I knew it was one of the older boys. “OPEN THIS DOOR. YOU’RE NOT ALLOWED TO LOCK DOORS IN THIS HOUSE!”, I heard screaming from the other end of the door.

“Don’t get your boxers in a bunch!”, I rolled my eyes, calmly brushing out my hair. I grabbed my tube of “for kids only” hair detangler spray, spritzing it throughout my hair and inhaling the delicious scent of apples.

Opening the door and attempting to rush out, I stumbled into a tall and broad frame.

A strong pair of arms wrapped around me, accompanied by an overpowering aroma of woodsy, musky axe and lemony cleaning detergent.

“Well; my boxers certainly aren’t in a bunch, now.”

I looked up into a pair of bright blue eyes, getting lost for a few seconds.

I rolled my eyes, detangling myself from him.

“Is that apple I smell?”, he smirked innocently looking down at me, breaking me out of my trance.

“You can wipe that smirk off your face. You know you were hovering way too close by the door.”

“You sure you didn’t enjoy that little moment we had there?”, his smirk grew wider.

“Get real, Finn.”, I brushed by him, heading for the stairs.

I walked down the stairs slowly, refusing to believe someone could smell that good.

“Morning Fran!”

“Oh, hello Alyssa. Would you like to try some of my francakes?”, Fran smiled at me pleasantly.

“Um, what’s a fran…cake…?”, I asked nervously.

“Oh, I just added a few dashes of different ingredients into the mix.”

“Oh.”, I smiled. “Sure Fran. I’m sure if you made it, it tastes wonderful. “

“Kiss-up.”, Finn muttered, strolling in and seating himself across the table from me.
