Patsy answered the door. "Who are you? Who let you in?"
"I need to talk to Liam."
I knew he was there, she'd said so when Alan got her to buzz us into the building.
"You can't just come to my flat making demands. Who are you? How do you know where me and Liam live?"
"Is Liam here or not?"
Liam came to the door. He stood close to Patsy, practically leaning on her and kissed her. Somehow he didn't see me at first. "Haileigh, what the fuck are you doing here?"
"You know her?"
"She's..."
"It doesn't matter." I insisted. "Are you engaged to her or not?"
She held out her hand to show me the ring, fully willing to show it off even though she had no idea who I was.
"Congratulations. So has he told you anything about me?"
"No." she shook her head. "Who are you?"
"I'm the mother of his three month old twins and well until I saw the article, I thought we were getting back together."
"Is this true?" Patsy turned to Liam. "You cheated on me?"
"She had my kids but no I never cheated." Liam denied.
"Yes you did. How else has she had your kids?"
"That was before I met you!"
"We were seeing each other in September."
"No, we weren't. I wasn't seeing no one then."
"Apparently you were seeing the both of us." I chipped in but neither listened.
"If that's what you think, then we're not engaged now either." She took her ring off. "Get out of my flat, get out of my life."
"WHAT?" Liam snapped. "You can't FUCKING do that!"
"Yes I can! I'm not marrying a lying, cheating scumbag like you." she yelled at him. "I'm not marrying you."
"I'm not!" he protested. "Don't, y'can't sack me off!"
"GET OUT!" She threw her engagement ring at him.
"Patsy c'mon! Y'can't."
"You're just some scummy, horrible Manc chav, you don't deserve me, you don't deserve anything!"
"Y'don't deserve me, stupid bitch."
She shoved Liam as hard as she could, holding herself together just long enough to get rid of us. "Don't you dare come near me again, Liam Gallagher."
"Didn't wanna fucking marry you anyway." he said, realising there was no arguing as we were ousted out the door. "Psycho."
He stormed off as fast as he could.
"That's it Liam, run away!" I yelled. "It's all you do!"
I felt so bad for Patsy, she didn't deserve to get hurt like that. I decided to knock on her door and try to comfort her.
"Just leave me alone." She was crying, sobbing.
"I don't want to leave you like this."
"I'm fine!" she insisted. "Just piss off."
Alan had to convince me to leave it, I didn't know why I was bothering. She wasn't my problem, I should never have met her.
...
Liam didn't visit for a few days. I heard nothing from him, neither did his bandmates. He dealt with his broken engagement in his own way.
I hadn't meant for things to go like that, I simply wanted her to know Liam wasn't just the reckless rock star that everyone knew and I wanted her to know he already had me.
When he did come over, he was quiet, he didn't want to talk to me just like when he started visiting all over again.
Once the twins were asleep in their cots for the night I decided to get him to talk. "Why am I getting the silent treatment?"
"You're not."
"You didn't even say hi when you came in."
"Alright, I don't want to talk to you since y'fucked up my engagement."
"What were you doing getting engaged to that bimbo?"
"Oi! Don't start insulting her, y'don't know her..."
"You told me you love me." I interrupted. "Why would you do that when you were about to propose to somebody else?"
"It was a mistake!"
"Get out, Liam." I told him, deflated. "Get the fuck out of my house."
"Listen, I meant her. I don't know why I did it..."
"Don't insult me, Liam. Don't start lying to me because you think it'll save your skin."
"I'm not! I got with her when y'told me y'were pregnant..."
"What, you were with her to spite me?"
"Just listen to me Haileigh. I got with her cos we were over, rebound or whatever and I couldn't fucking get out of it. I don't wanna get married, especially not to her. I never even liked her."
I didn't know what to say to that, it didn't make any sense but I didn't think he was lying either. "Why would you get engaged...?"
"I. Don't. Know." he answered forcefully. "Don't matter now. It's over."
"You just said we were over so that clearly doesn't mean anything to you. Are you going to try to get back with her when your mood changes?"
"No! I never want to see the snobby bitch again." he insisted. "I want to be right here with you and our family... We'd have been together the whole time if you weren't married."
"Fuck off, you'd have freaked out just the same if we had been together."
"I want to be with you now, y'know I do. Everything else is the fucking past."
"That's all you can say, forget it? You were going to marry her."
"Y'were gonna raise my kids as someone else's. Noel told me y'didn't want to do the test so don't have a go at me for lying."
"Don't bring my kids into this."
"Our kids, we'd still just be shagging in secret if it wasn't for them, so am I staying here and being with you or am I going and fucking doing whatever."
"It's all on you."
"No it's not. You'd tell me to fuck off and you'd do it all yourself if you hadn't gotten in with Noel and Alan and everyone."
"Now I can't have friends, is that what being with you is really like?"
"Stop twisting my words. D'you want us to be together or not? If y'don't I'm going and I'll be back when the twins need it."
"Yes, I do." I reluctantly admitted.
