Anna's POV
"Anna! Get down here! Mum wants to have a family meeting!" Brett shouts from downstairs.
I roll my eyes, my mum always has family meetings, as she likes to call them.
I really can't be bothered to heave myself off my comfy bed and stop reading my book.
But, if I don't make my own way downstairs, one of my brothers, probably Brett, will throw me over their shoulder and purposely run downstairs which hurts my tummy against their muscly shoulder!
"Get your butt down here, or I'm coming up!" Brett shouts.
"I'm coming!" I yell.
I walk downstairs, and see Brett standing by the door into the living room, and mum and Louis in the living room.
"Finally," Brett says and shoves me lightly into the room.
"Everyone, sit down, I need to tell you something important, that's going to change everything," mum pales and stands up.
What? Is something wrong?
I sit down slowly, next to Louis on the sofa, and Brett sits in the armchair next to us.
"You know Steve?" Mum asks us.
We know Steve he's mum's boyfriend, they've been going out for about six months.
My brothers don't like it at all, as they don't want mum to be messed around.
I don't like mum having a boyfriend because it feels like mum's forgotten dad. Our dad died four years ago, when I was nine and the twins were fourteen.
"Yes, we know Steve," Brett grumbles.
"Don't talk about him in that tone. Anyway I have some big news, we're engaged! We're moving!" She claps her hands excitedly.
No! Surely not? This is a dream, right?
"WHAT?" I scream. "I am not leaving this house!"
"This can't happen!" Brett shouts. "I don't trust him!"
"You've only been seeing this man for a few months!" Louis grumbles, putting his head in his hands.
"Exactly! Do you even know this man, mum? We don't want to see you get hurt!" Brett yells.
Ever since dad died, Brett has been the man of the house; (he's twenty minutes older than Louis) and is very protective over me and even over mum.
Sadly the females in this house are short, I'm five foot one and my mum is five foot four, where as the twins are like six foot two, so I'm tiny compared to my brothers!
"Life is too short. We know that better than anyone. I love Steve, to the moon and back and we want to make a go of things, to be a family. We are moving next week and you will enrol at the high school there. You know I only want the best for you three."
"I'M NOT GOING!" I scream, tears pouring down my cheeks.
"Anna! Don't talk to me like that!" Mum raises her voice.
"Anna, calm down," Brett turns to me.
"DON'T TELL ME TO CALM DOWN! WHAT ABOUT DAD?" I yell.
Silence. Mum looks shocked, while Brett and Louis look down at the floor.
I run out of the room, I need to get out. I know where I need to go. I run out the door, it's at dusk, late August.
"Anna! Wait! Come here!" Brett yells. "It's not safe."
"Babe, it's okay, just come back," Louis shouts.
I can hear running feet behind me. I know it will be only a matter of seconds before they grab me, but I want to run to my special place.
I keep running, around a corner, and suddenly arms wrap around me, pulling me into them.
"Shh, Anna, it's okay sweet," Louis pulls me into his warm chest.
"No! It's not!" I scream, fighting against his strong hold, tears still pouring down.
"Anna. Listen to me," Brett says in my ear, bent down.
Louis turns me round, but still holding onto my waist. Brett puts his hands on my shoulders and looks into my eyes.
"We can go and visit dad tomorrow, but not now. I know our whole life is changing, but let's go home. Now are you gonna walk back calmly or am I gonna have to carry you struggling?"
I nod slowly, tears still coming down.
"C'mon, let's go," Louis says.
We walk back in silence, Brett ahead of us and Louis has his arm around me.
"Don't you ever run off again young lady!" Mum says as we get in through the door.
"Leave her mum, can't you see she's finding this hard? She's only little, only thirteen!" Brett says, standing in front of me.
"I'm going up to bed, we'll talk about this in the morning," mum sighs and goes upstairs.
I wrap my arms around Brett's waist, and lay my head on his back. He grips my arms and then says: "C'mon, go to bed Annie."
Annie. That's when you know he's in the big softy, big brother mode. I love it when he calls me Annie.
"Carry me then," I pout.
Louis chuckles from behind me, and says: "She's all yours bro," and goes upstairs.
"Just this once," Brett takes off his and my shoes, and carries me bridal style up the stairs. "Are you eating three meals a day miss? You weigh nothing."
Oh no, not this again.
"Yes, I am, chill out," I reply.
"Hmm," he mumbles and takes me into my room. "Good night little sis," he kisses my forehead and then goes.
I change into my onzie and climb into my bed.
When I was twelve, I used to struggle eating three meals a day, I was worried I was fat, as some girl called me fat and other words.
Eventually, after about two months of me skipping breakfast and lunch, (I couldn't skip dinner as we always et that as a family) my brothers found out: Louis walked into my room once when I was getting changed, I only had a sports bra and leggings on, so he saw my ribs stick out like anything.
Anyway, I'm just about eating two to three meals everyday which is improving ever since Brett used to force feed me.
But...how am I going to leave dads grave? And this house?
I slip into a troubled sleep...
