Anna's POV

The dreaded sound of the bell rings through the vacant hallways as I run.

Tardiness is not tolerated here; there's a strict policy about arriving late for your classes - detention is the compulsory outcome, for sure.

I skid round the last corner and slow down, trying to catch my breath - I give myself three seconds - three seconds won't make any difference to the two and a half minutes over the bell.

I open the door to History and walk in - "your late, Anna," Mrs Horricks wastes no time in telling me off, as she glares at me.

Why did I have to be late to one of the strictest teacher's classes?

The whole class stares at me while Summer and Jade try not to laugh - they know how punctual I like to be.

"Well?"

"Sorry, Miss, I was running late," I walk to my seat.

"Lateness is not tolerated here. Detention after school, for one hour," she continues to glare while I nod, going red.

"You alright?" Summer whispers as I get my pens and books out as the witch begins to teach about our topic, World War Two; that we are studying at the moment.

I nod; not wanting to talk in case I get in further trouble.

------------

I manage to catch Logan in one of the hallways and I tell him about the detention to which he laughs at, but he promises to let my brothers know after school and he said one of them will pick me up an hour later.

I don't fancy texting them.

It was partly Louis's fault that I was late to school - Brett went to the gym early and Adam and Logan left to go get Starbucks before school so it was just Louis and I driving to school and we were running late. He overslept having spent hours doing his essays he left to last minute last night, hence his tiredness.

When the school day ends, I nervously walk to the notorious detention room, number twenty one, on the ground floor.

I look in and just see two older girls sat at the back and one boy in the middle, he looks to be around my age.

I open the door and walk in, and sit down four desks across from the boy.

"Anna Hill, right?" A youngish male teacher says at his desk at the front.

"Yes, Sir," I nod.

"Never seen you here before," he raises his eyebrows, "I'm Mr Jenks."

I nod but don't say anything.

"Well, you just have to sit here quietly until four and then you can go."

I get out some homework - I might as well do something to kill the time.

"Guys, I'll be across the hallway and I'm leaving the door open, so no loud conversations," he looks stern for a second and walks out.

I hear the girls behind me talk about the latest trends and the music concert they really want to see.

A chair scrapes across the floor as I start to plan my English Shakespeare essay; and I sense someone sitting down next to me.

"Anna, right?" I look up.

"Yeah, that's what the teacher said," I nod.

"Fair enough. I'm Oscar, I'm in your math and geography."

"Cool, but I'm trying to do my work," I look back down at my plan.
