Anna's POV

Usually, the household would be full of noise, busyness and voices on Monday mornings as we all scramble around to get ready for school.

But not today.

This Monday is quiet with the odd mumble.

"Anna, are you ready?" Adam walks into the kitchen where I'm sat at the breakfast bar on my phone.

"Yep."

"Cool, let's go then," he grabs his backpack and walks out.

I reluctantly jump down and follow him out to the car.

I immediately notice that Louis' car is already gone, as I hop into the passenger seat of Brett's car and he starts the engine.

"What about Adam and Logan?" I ask as we often car share.

"Logan has a hockey practice and Adam has a study group that's compulsory after school so they won't be back until late," Brett drives.

"Okay," I nod. "Have you spoken to Louis yet?"

"No, he left at half six - his gym bag was gone so he went to the gym I'm guessing," Brett sighs. "How are you?"

"Tired," I say honestly. "And peeved and confused with Louis."

"That makes two of us."

Nothing else is said.

----------

"Anna, c'mon, let's go find the others for lunch," Summer says as we leave maths to go to lunch.

"Coming," I reply, zipping up my bag.

We walk down one of the busy, sweltering hallways.

"Isn't that your brother?" Summer nudges me.

I look ahead to where Summer is looking and I notice Louis is at his locker, taking his textbooks and folders out.

"Yeah, that is. I'll meet you guys in the cafeteria - I won't be a second," I reply.

"No problem, see you in a bit," Summer waves and carries on.

"Can we talk?" I say quietly, but bluntly.

Louis startles in surprise and drops a few of his papers.

"Go away Anna!" He immediately fires at me and grabs the fallen papers, hugging them to his chest.

But not before I notice.

"Louis, I saw-"

"Don't say it," he growls.

I take a step back, frightened.

"God damn it Anna," his eyes soften for a split second.

He turns back to his locker and closes it shut.

"Come to my room at five, and I'll explain everything," he mutters.

I nod.

"But, don't tell anyone. Not Brett, not Adam, not Logan. Do you understand?" He sternly says.

"Yes," I mumble.

"Right, I need to go," and with that he walks off.

I stand, frozen for a second, taking in what's just happened.

So, that's why Louis has been rude, frustrated, angry, upset even. He's stressed beyond stressed. But, that's still no excuse for the way he's been acting.

My phone pings and I see a text from Kenzie saying 'Do you want me to buy you your lunch' - sometimes if one or two of us is late to lunch the others buy so we don't have to suffer in long queues and we just pay them back.
