*****Alpha Mark pictured above*****
I blinked again as the Redwoods came into view and a feeling of relief washed over me. I knew what those Redwoods meant. It meant we were in Redwood territory and I could probably make contact with my father now to alert him of Alex's presence so that he would not see it as a threat.
Alex reached out and pulled my hand into his grasp which caused me to stop and I looked at him. He glanced ahead at Rafe who had not noticed our brief pause in advancing.
"Rafe. Stay here. You are in charge. If I find anything out of the ordinary when I return, I will handle things accordingly." His eyes seemed to glow as he gave Rafe his command.
Rafe bowed his head in submission.
Alex stepped forward again with my hand still in his and stepped past Rafe. I felt the other vampire's eyes on me until we were a decent distance away.
"Now, I think it would be wise for you to contact your father. I did not want you to do it around Rafe. If any of your pack was harmed, your father would pick up on his scent."
I nodded and opened the link up in my mind. Instantly, I was met with my father's concerned voice. 'Kayla? Is that you? My precious daughter, are you alright? Where are you?'
I staggered with the overpowering control he had in my mind as he commanded me to answer. Alex caught my elbow in his hand and immediately wrapped his arm around my waist.
I looked up at him. "His words are strong. He's so worried."
He nodded. "Talk to him."
I took a deep breath. 'Yes. It's me. I'm alright. I need you to be understanding of what I am about to tell you. I'm with Alexander Kovington. He's bringing me back home. He isn't the one who took me dad, so do not have your scouts attack his men.'
'If he isn't the one who took you, then why is he bringing you back?'
I felt my strength leave me again from the power and force of his words in my mind, but Alex pulled me into him.
'He wants to meet with you, dad. Please. Do it for me.'
I was returned with silence for a while as Alex and I continued to walk. As we neared the edge of the Redwood forest, I heard twigs snapping on either side of us.
Alex glanced to the side and then back at me. "He's sent his scouts to make sure you were telling the truth."
I nodded, but I didn't let it show how much that had hurt me. He hadn't believed I was telling him the truth.
As we stepped completely into the clearing of the pack community, the wolves descended from the forest as well and they shifted and slipped on shorts and t-shirts.
Aiden's dad stepped forward and looked at me first before he glanced at Alex with a disgusted look. "We know what you are. Your kind is not welcome on our territory so you better make your business with the alpha short and meaningful." His threat was loud as day even though he had not stated it out loud. I knew what the threat was. I had seen it too many times. We had a facility set up just for the strict purpose of torturing Alex's kind.
I suddenly felt lightheaded and I brought my hand up to my head.
"Are you alright, Kayla?" It was the Beta who questioned my well-being. I only nodded before I looked back up at Alex. "I'm fine." I knew he was wondering too and I preferred to answer his question over Beta Patrick's
"Come on. The Alpha is waiting in the Meeting Cabin."
Alex and I followed him a short distance until we stepped inside the small cabin that was adjacent to the pack house and I saw my father seated at the head of the table. I felt relief at the sight of him that he was uninjured and he stood as he looked me up and down for apparently the same reason.
