I woke to an aroma that made my mouth water and I immediately sat up and pulled the soft cotton sheet around my body. On the table to the side of the bed was a plate full of an assortment of breakfast foods. The most appealing looked to be the French toast and fresh maple syrup. How did he know? I smiled to myself. There probably isn't much he doesn't know now.
I pulled the sheets free from the bed and scooted to the edge of the bed. I still felt exhausted from the day and night spent with Dante, but I would have plenty of time to rest. I lifted the plate with the French toast and spread the butter and poured the maple syrup on top. Once those were finished, I ate the fresh fruit and drank the glass of orange juice. I slid the tray back further onto the table and stood.
I glanced around and saw my suitcase lying on a trunk at the end of the bed. I lifted it up and immediately recognized the trunk underneath. Tears sprang to my eyes as I lifted the lid up and looked inside. I lifted my mother's picture into my hand and brought it against my chest. The enormity of how much I missed who she had been brought a weakness into me and I collapsed against the trunk. "How could you, mom? You were supposed to be someone I could count on!"
I regained my strength and pushed myself up from the trunk, tossed the picture back inside and pushed the top down. The memories that I used to hold dear disintegrated into fragments of lies that I wished to forget forever.
I opened my suitcase and lifted out a pair of black jogging pants and a pink sports bra. I pulled out the jacket that matched the pants as well. I looked towards the bathroom and hesitantly stepped inside. My soap, shampoo, and conditioner were already placed on the shelf beside the shower and I smiled. He wanted me in here with him now. I did not have a separate room. At least I hoped not.
After I was refreshed with a shower, I decided to let my hair air dry and pulled it back into a messy ponytail. I slid my bra and panties on and then my jogging pants, followed by my jacket. I didn't bother with gloss on my lips because I was going to train. I grabbed my iPod out of my suitcase and pulled the arm holder tight around my arm and slid it in. I clicked play as I bent down and laced my shoes up. I did a little jogging in place and stretched my leg muscles before I started out the door and towards the outside.
Once outside I closed the door behind me and took a deep breath in. I opened my eyes again and turned to the path beside the house towards the back where the training ring was. Nina had told me there was a gym around the back too. That was where I was headed to. I fell into a jogging rhythm as I followed the path around the back and listened to the beat of the song that was playing in my ears. At the moment I believe it was Sean Kingston's "Fire Burning".
By the time I made it around to the back, I glanced over at the training ring and saw that Noveah and Nathanial were sprawling as Xavon watched on from the side. There were about 20 other warriors over there, but I did not know all of them by name.
