Kayla's POV

I slowly stretched my arms and my legs out and stifled a yawn as I sat up in bed and blinked the rest of the sleep out of my eyes.

I smiled as I thought about Alex and how he had followed through with his promise and brought me back here. Suddenly, though the thought of his intentions of coming here came to my mind and I raced to find clothes to put on. I showered and fumbled lazily with my hair before I just let it fall around my shoulders in its soft waves.

I slipped on my sandals and headed out to find my dad. I knew he wouldn't be far, so I went to the first place I felt like he would be.

I knocked on the oak wood door and waited for him to respond. "Come in."

I turned the knob and pushed the door open hoping that Alex was in there as well, but I was met with Beta Patrick's gaze along with one that took the breath right out of my body. I stumbled into the room and the tingles that ignited over my body in painful spurts made me realize that it was Aiden who had caught me.

"Stop! Don't touch me!" I breathed out in a desperate whisper. He immediately withdrew his hands.

I looked up at my dad with tears in my eyes. "Dad, what's he doing here?"

My dad stood up and slammed his hands against his desk and I flinched. "He is your mate! I will not have you gallivanting off with some vampire while your mate is sitting here regretting the choice that he made to reject you."

I stared at Aiden dumbfounded. "Regretting? Do you, Aiden? Do you regret it?"

Aiden looked at my dad before he nodded over at me.

I laughed out loud, but it held no humor. "I think the only thing you regret is that it was me that the Moon chose to be your mate instead of Ashley. I think you still mean your rejection. I think that because I still feel the pain of it. If you meant the words you say then the bond would erase the pain. I don't feel that." I glared over at my dad, realizing the danger of my actions. "I'm going to find Alex. Either tell me where he is, or I will just search until I find him."

My dad looked at me briefly before he sighed and spoke. "The outer cabin."

I nodded and didn't spare Aiden another glance before I walked out of the office.

Once I reached the outer cabin, I called his name. Immediately the door opened, but I still did not see him. I knew why. He was staying away from the cast of light that opening the door had created. I hurried inside and closed the door behind me. As soon as the sun's light had been closed out, he came into my view and I smiled with relief.

"Your thoughts tell me that you are happy to see me. Is that true?"

I nodded and stepped to the table.

"It scared me how much I actually missed...being with you last night after my dad sent me away."

I stepped over to the cabinet and pulled out a glass and filled it with water from the sink. I downed it in seconds and turned back around and glanced at Alex. His eyes were so dark they were almost black as he gripped the back of the chair so hard I heard it splintering.

"Alex, are you alright?"

He spoke through gritted teeth and I saw his fangs had protruded from his gums slightly. "The lust...,"

I took a step towards him but he immediately stepped back against the wall. "No! Kayla, don't come closer! Not right now!"

I looked down at the floor and back up at him and took a deep breath. "I trust you with my life, Alex." I took another step closer to him and another. After a few more, I was right in front of him and he closed his eyes and turned his face away from me.
