*****Kayla's POV*****
I blew out another steady breath of air as I lifted myself down off of the exercise bike. I glanced up as a movement near the door caught my attention. Amari headed in my direction and seemed livid as he approached.
"How could you?!?" He all but yelled down at me the moment he got close enough where he could yell without really yelling. His anger was so strong I felt it choking me.
"Amari, what are..." He interrupted me. "Don't pretend, Kayla. The guard told me you went down to the cells to visit Dante...with our son!"
I sighed exasperatedly and stepped past him to get my towel. "Amari, I made a choice to be with you, but the genetics of my son cannot be changed. He is not your son. He never will be. I cannot keep them apart." I heard him sigh behind me and a second later, I felt his breath against my neck on my mark and his hands around my waist. His anger dissipated as he relaxed against me and I leaned back against him. "I wish I knew how to remove your reservations when it comes to his return, Mari." I twisted in his arms so that I could look up into his eyes. When he looked down at me, his eyes seemed to have a slight haziness to them. I turned more in his arms as my anger started to grow. "How much, Amari? Your eyes are telling on you."
He glanced downward and shame seemed to swirl around him. "Kayla, I can't...it's the only way that I think I can deal with him being this close and knowing that whenever he decides it, I will lose everything..." He looked back up at me. "Including you. You don't understand what that feels like."
I laughed. "I don't like this, Amari. I don't like how you feel like you have to consume so much liquor. I chose you! I may not can change the fact that Aeron is Dante's son, but that doesn't mean I have to go along with this stupid prophecy anymore. Dante hurt me far greater than anyone could have understood. Except you." Amari sucked in a deep breath as he looked up at me. "You know better than anyone. That's why you tried so hard to gain my attention. You knew exactly what I was going through..." I paused and turned away from him, but he grabbed my wrist and pulled me back against him roughly.
"I do. And I won't be sucked back in any more than I will allow him to suck you back in." His eyes started to turn into a dull hazel and his drunkenness only masked his authority against me slightly. It didn't usually sway me, but in that moment, I was caught off guard. "What? Amari, why do I have to keep insisting that that is not going to happen? What more do I have to do to prove that to you?"
He stopped suddenly and a thought hidden to me seemed to embrace his mind. "I know exactly what you can do..." He kept his hold on my wrist and started to pull me behind him as he headed out the side door and towards the villa. I tried to pull free from his hold, but he did not loosen his grip. "I see only one way to make him realize that you and this pack are no longer his."
When he glanced back at me, the determined glint in his eyes made me feel something that I thought I would never feel for Amari. When he stopped, it was in front of the door that led to the room that once was Dante's. No one had occupied it although Nina had pointedly removed the more personal items from the room so that it was available if needed. I looked up at him as he pulled me to his side. "Amari?"
He looked at me and back to the door. "This is just the beginning of my plan. First things first, I think this room is a much better choice for the Alpha and Luna considering it is at the front of the house, don't you agree?"
I shook my head from side to side and opened my mouth to speak, but before I could get a word out, he lifted his other hand to the door knob and pushed it open. He smirked as he pulled me around in front of him and pushed me further inside the room. "Amari, I can't...I can't share this room with you."
