Chapter ten

I was so happy Soda was back to himself. Of course he was still a little sad but he was soda again. Later we had soda call Sandy to get it over with. After that he said
"she was being rude about the whole situation I really never saw that side of her.it was better we broke up anyway. I don't wanna be with such a rude person. And I'm to young to become a dad it would change my life."
We all agreed.
Me and Johnny weren't the dirty couple. We just weren't. We really cared about each other. We'd never take advantage of each other. We loved hugs and cuddles. Being held by eachother was the best feeling in the world.  We were taking things slow. We haven't kissed yet or said I love you. But we knew we loved each other. We are really in love.
It wasn't till after we cheered Soda up that I noticed the new big purple and black bruise on Johnny's face. It wasn't there this morning before he went to his house.
"Oh my god Johnny how did I not notice that before! I'm so sorry! Was this from when you went to your house this morning?"
I said as I grabbed his hand to take him to the kitchen. We sat next to eachother at the table after I got a ice pack.
"Yeah but it's no big deal I'm used to it. Don't worry."
but you could see the hurt in his eyes.
"Johnny I hate seeing you hurt I really do..."
Johnny jolted when I touched the bruise with the ice pack. My other hand was still intertwined with Johnny's and I squeezed it.
"This can't keep happening to you. This shouldn't be the kind of thing you get used to. I hate seeing you in pain it kills me. I wish I could change spots with you."
He put his head on my shoulder.
"no you don't. I can handle getting beat. I can't handle you getting hurt."
"Oh Johnny,"
I sighed.
"We gotta do something I can't just sit here and see you with new bruises and cuts everyday."
"I love that you're trying to help me but you can't there's nothing you or me or anyone can do. I just gotta take it."
A tear rolled down my face. He put his head back up. I put down the ice pack.
"Hey I said no crying about me"
"Oh shut up Johnnycakes."
We had a long hug while slow tears rolled down our faces. I suddenly popped up.
"Hey! I know! Whenever you go home I'll come with you. Maybe they'll lay off. I'll talk to them and the worst that could happen is they get mad at me. No biggy. And if that doesn't work we can just take all your things and you can move out I don't know anything. I just don't want you hurt. Emotionally or physically."
He smiled.
"It'll never work. But I can see how much you wanna try, so we'll try."
"Thank you Johnny thank youuuu!"
He pulled me in for a kiss. After the kiss we hugged again and we just whispered in each others ears.
"I love you."
It was kinda weird we said it at the same time but it felt amazing. It was our first time for both those things and it was great. We pulled away from eachother and you couldn't wipe the big goofy smiles off of our faces.

I was kinda surprised no one walked in the kitchen that whole time. But we went back to the living room and we all hung out. Dally played me in Trouble the board game. (Which was new at the time.) But he kept getting frustrated that I kept on winning so we played and played until he won. We talked and talked when we played trying to get to know each other. Dally isn't that bad of a guy. I mean, he does bad things but he's a good person when you get down to it. I don't know, dally, I feel like he's misunderstood. But he never lets anyone know his real feelings so thats why.

The next day me and Johnny woke up next to each other at the lot again. Of course he had to go to school. But this time he didn't go to his house first just to the Curtis'. Darry was driving him since he had to drop off pony there anyway. I went to the dx again with soda. We all got ready and got in the truck. We were almost to the school. So I had to say goodbye to Johnny again.
"Listen Johnny be careful okay? And don't let any socs bully you around. Don't go to your house after school. Please don't. I don't want you getting hurt. Just hang out with ponyboy. Okay? I love you."
"Okay I'll be safe. You be safe too okay? I love you too."
And we meant it too we are deeply in love with each other.
"Hey soda, make sure nothing happens to her alright?"
"Alright alright Johnnycakes I won't."
"Bye ponyboy see you after school."
I said
"Bye Anne see you."
and then pony and Johnny got out of the car.
After we got to the dx and were settled I started asking Soda to show me around and what he does. We went around doing whatever Soda needed to do. (this time with me helping)
"Hey soda, ever need any help around here?"
"Sometimes when Steve's not here. Like when everybody's at school. My boss needs another person to help be the clerk inside. Looking for a job?"
"Yeah actually. I'm tired of having to have other people pay for me or for two bit to steal stuff for me. And I wanna give some money to you guys too. Considering I've slept at your house a lot and ate a lot of meals there."
"Wow that's really nice. But I'll definitely ask my boss about it,"
"Thanks soda."
"No problem. Hey will you hand me that wrench?"
The day went on. I learned some stuff I needed to learn from soda and hung out. Later I found Johnny and ponyboy and we convinced Darry to let us hang out at the park. We hung out and had fun. We talked a lot. We also played a lot of games while we were there. Until we had to go back because it was getting dark and they had homework.
