After a little while more of talking we found out his name was Scott Williams. He moved here from Detroit Michigan. They moved because his mom died in a car wreck and they couldn't take the pain of driving past the place all the time. Plus his dad found a job in  Tulsa.
More hours past and it was late. The kid was still hurt badly and we let him sleep there tonight. Dallas, Darry, Steve, and Two-Bit all came back from the hospital but weren't saying anything so I decided to go my self.
"Hey guys I'll be back I gotta be with Johnny. I feel so bad for not going earlier."
"Okay Anne stay safe." Darry said
I went to my car and started driving. Of course it had to run out of gas in the middle of me driving there. So that took a while to figure out. But eventually I got back on the road, but who knew there would be so much traffic this late at night.
By the time I got to the hospital it was two am.
When I got there I ran straight in to the desk,
"Hi wheres the room for the Cades, it was a house fire." I said quickly.
"Sorry no visitors are aloud. You can sit with the boy who's been waiting, he's right over here,"
The lady led me to Johnny. I ran and sat next to him.
He was sitting back staring into the distance and nothing in particular. His eyes were red from crying so much. But right now a single tear went down his face and stayed there. He looked like he was holding his breath.
"Oh Johnny I'm so sorry for not being here sooner, I was helping that boy and then my car ran out of gas in the middle of the road and then the traffic was horrible, and , well Johnny I'm so sorry."
"I get it." He responded. He paused but then taking a deep breath he said, about to cry again,
"You know it was house fire? They said it was started by a cigarette one of them didn't put out good. It was easily fueled by all the spilled alcohol. They were too drunk to get out in time. It spread fast anyways. I just keep thinking if I would've been there, I could've done something. I could've helped and they wouldn't be like this. The fix says they're burnt to a crisp. So bad he won't let me see em. Too much smoke inhalation too. Did says he'll let me see them later, that it's probably their last night. If I would've been there it they wouldn't be dying." He was full on sobbing between words now putting his ha dis too his head. After wards he started lightly hitting himself in the head calling himself stupid over and over again.
I went around in front of him and squatted down to where we were the same height since he was sitting down. I pulled both of his hands down. And held them.
"Johnny look at me."
He shook his head tears still going down his face.
"Johnny look at me." I said
He looked at me.
"It's not your fault Johnny. You know it isn't, it's theirs. You need to stop beating yourself up about it. You couldn't have done anything to save them. And they never did anything good for you anyways. It's just, I know your hurt, you're aloud to be. I just don't understand it. They were cruel to you your whole life yet you've always been so sweet to them. Just calm down Johnny. It's not your fault, but I'm here for you no matter what. I love you."
"I know, I know it's not my fault, and I know you love me. It's just I know they were cruel to me but. This hurts more than insults or beatings ever could. They're my parents no matter what. So I don't know,. It just hurts."
Now he was calming down, the tears began to stop. I leaned up and kissed him. I got up and held his hand until the doctor said he could come in.
He went and I waited for him. Twenty minutes later he came out and said they were still asleep. A few minutes after he came out the doctor practically kicked us out of the hospital, saying it was really really late and we've been here for a long time and they were asleep anyways.
