Writers remember. Everything.
They have to.
The whole world has to pass through our pens before its inhabitants can see.
We remember because we are the stories others read.
The stories of the ages held in a small canister of ink.
With the power to sink the world or hold it up. To tell its history or say just enough so that no one ask questions when they read.
They say money is power.
I say words are power.
How many people believe
what someone somewhere
has written down on the page just there,
A few special choices and the whole world could be at your feet.
And the wrong letter or syllable could be the difference between whether citizens love or hate you.Such pressure we have to do them justice
To tell them right.
To make them beautiful
To bring beauty into the light. We bleed the ink from the wounds that others thought they could slay us with.
We are the evidence of strength that says
that when all seems lost,
words could be our deliverance.
It is not the words in themselves,
but what we accomplish
and learn through them.
They could never understand the
freedom of blank verse
or the excitement at unearthing a new word. But as long as I have been alive
Words have never faulted me.
And so I must, with my best intentions
Write words that hold the worlds attention.
Create palaces and grand inventions
Out of sentences and syllables
Poetry and alliterations.
We go to our battle stations
in hopes of taking on the world and find that sometimes we make it better,
Other times we make it worse,
But we are always attempting different,
is just a matter of learning what works.
Writers will remember everything
if you let them,
because the world flows through our pens.
