Chapter 22- Running

Ember's Pov

The ground beneath me started to feel like jello after running for who knows how long straight. Maybe it was an hour, or maybe it was a minute. How was I supposed to figure it out? I tried out that one thing where you look at the sun and try to find out what time of day it was but all I got was being blinded for a couple of minutes, which in my current case, really wasn't good.

Why does this happen?

I turned my head to look behind and when I lingered, a sudden root decided to ruin my life and I tripped. Now I'm at a bigger disadvantage. Why tree? What did I do to you? I swear trees are ruining my life. Oh hey, are you trying to do something? Well here, have a BRANCH TO YOUR FACE. Jerks.

Getting back up again, I swirled around and started to run once again. Sometimes I wish running didn't exist. Then again, without it, I would be dead from that one raging minotaur we had to deal with a long time ago. That wasn't fun.

Crackling from the bushes nearby told me it was time for me to make them lose my trail. With one unnecessary flip, I bolted into the woods and weaved through trees until I started to get dizzy. When I finally stopped, I never wanted to move again. But soon I got over it and kept going.

I slowed down when I got deep enough and decided that stealth was maybe the way to go. I became quieter and could hear what was going on around me. Something was coming. That was for sure.

I whipped around in the direction of the approaching figure just as they launched themselves at me. Probably by luck, I moved out of the way just as they could have reached me. They stumbled onto the ground, verbally letting me know they had regretted their decision and I should have gotten a head start.

But nooooooooo, their partner had to show up.

That's my life for ya.

They sprang out of the ground making me jump. I ducked and rolled out of the way when they tried to come at me, then noped myself out of there.

Though I was fast, the second one had their ways of catching up, and before I knew it, they were chasing me using the earth around them. The first one then decided to, at that exact and unfortunate moment, come out of the cluster of trees and close off my only exit.

Yayyyyy, so fun.

I looked around pretty much everywhere and to my not-surprise, there was no escape.

The earth mage started to get closer with the warrior mirroring her movements. "Gotcha Ember." Was the last thing I heard before I lost.

"And it took us... 15 minutes and 57 seconds to catch you with powers! That has to be a record!" Bliss smiled and gave me the thumbs up. I groaned and sat down. "Sounds great. Can we please do nothing for the rest of today?" Vixen sat down besides me. "Agreed. I don't know why we do these things." Bliss was quick to answer that question.

"Well, I got bored one day, and tag sounded fun enough and pinning one person against everyone else plus adding in the competition for motivation can cure boredom and get your friends to play." She winked at us for some reason. "Two birds." Then got really close to Vixen's face and loudly whispered. "One stone."

"Okay I get it. At least that one rule you made makes it extremely worth it."

Bliss sighed. "Fine. Since we all did good, I pay for and/or make the food. Come on, I had some stuff prepared in case she made it over five minutes, as the rule says."

"And then tomorrow we're gonna be all sore for the mission. Great."

Bliss froze. "Wait.. There's a mission tomorrow?" Vixen groaned loudly. "Yes!" Bliss looked down. "Crap I forgot. Why don't I think these things through..." She huffed. "Well what is it any ways?" Vixen gritted her teeth. "We have to check out that one tunneled mountain for that one guy. You know? The one who killed a man for no reason then ran into the mountain to hide?" Bliss made an 'Oh' sound and nodded her head.

"You have no idea do you?" I asked her.

"Nope"

"Dang it Bliss"
