Chapter 8 Birthday

Vixen's Pov
I groaned as the light streaming in through the window blinded me. My eyes fluttered open and took in everything around me. The sun was just coming up.

"Dang it." I mumbled softly and switched to sleep on my other side. The other side was empty. I snuggled closer to my blanket getting comfy and started to drift off again.

Then I realized what was wrong with what I saw.

I flickered my eyes and confirm what I saw. Which was nothing. That was the problem. Both Ember and Bliss weren't here.

I looked everywhere but came up with nothing. Dang. Where are those two? I swear, if they are trying to prank me again...

I let out a big sigh and laid down again. I need to sleep. Maybe they are out for a walk? I know that Bliss enjoys the night. Maybe Ember went with her? I'll check in the morning.
I was asleep before my head hit the pillow.

"Vixxxxxeeennnn" A musical voice half sang in my ear. I responded with a half hearted groan. "Guesses what?" I sighed. "What?" I responded. "It's noon!" A different voice answered. "So... I slept in? That's a miracle." I grinned to myself. I love sleeping in. It's been so long since I've gotten to sleep since noon though.

"Also." The first voice added. "One more thing." Curiosity seeped into my mind. "hmm?" They took a collective deep breath. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"

I bolted upright in the bed, eyes flying open. Huh? I blinked to adjust to the sight. Both Bliss and Ember were out of there normal attire and instead were wearing colorful dresses. Bliss held a large cake in her arms while Ember was hiding a gift in a small satchel. I blinked again confused. Today is my birthday? Oh yeah! Sweet!

I cracked a whole hearted smile as the others beamed down on me. "We got you a gift." Ember presented the gift proudly. "And cake!" Bliss added still beaming with joy. I let out a chuckle and took the gift from Ember's hands and opened it. Inside, was two items. The first was a necklace. The chain was silver and the pendant was two mini swords forming a X. The second item was a knitted bear. It was pretty small but I suppose it was so it was portable.

I laughed a bit, knowing which gift was from who. "Ember, this charm is really nice. I love it." I told her and put it on. Then, my attention turned to the bear. "And Bliss, this is really cool. It's well made and a bear was the perfect choice." Both of them radiated pure happiness and Bliss gave me a hug.

After a exchange of where they found it and how cheap it was, the mage used her short sword to cut us each a slice of cake and handed it to us. It was pretty good too! We joked as I told them that I woke up after they left and they both yawned. They were still sleepy. "I'm going to lay down and rest for a bit." Ember mumbled. Bliss nodded eagerly.

"Same. I am so t-" She stopped suddenly in mid sentence. "Bliss?" We turned to her and my eyes widened. Bliss's eyes were white and glowing. "Sorry kiddos" A feminine voice came out but it wasn't her's. "I need to borrow your friend's body for a second." Ember and I looked at each other with the same 'What is happening' look. "Sending message....." She hummed. A white glowing orb appeared and started to slowly grow.

"Hold on darlings~" She winked. "This might take a little more than indented. "What is happening?" Ember spoke finally. "I am borrowing your friend's body so I can deliver a gift. It's so hard to get mail to you people with your traveling that I have to do it the hard way. Sorry, I thought it was obvious." Wait what? "You can possess her body?" The lady clicked Bliss's tounge. "Sorta. I had permission. Bliss let me in and I transferred her soul to mine while we wait. I'd say it's closer to body switching."

The orb finally disappeared and a satchel appeared in it's place and dropped to the ground. "There we go! Here is your mail. Oh, and happy birthday Vixen." Her eyes flashed and turned back to the normal blue color. "Woah." Bliss said in her normal voice and gave her head a shake. "That was weird." Ember and my mouths had basically dropped as far as they could go in shock. "Uhhh." Ember said puzzled. Bliss didn't take notice and picked up the new thing.

"I believe this is for you!" She put the large satchel in my hands and nudged me bringing us both back to reality. "Right..." I opened it and pulled out a sweet looking sword and a letter. "Cool!" I heard Ember says as she pried it out of my hands and started to swing it around and did backflips almost breaking a vase full of flowers. I focus on the letter and after staring at it, opened and read it.

Dear Vixen,
Hey little sis! Too long am I right? We really miss you back here at BlackRock. You leaving took a big hit on everyone even after all these years. But knowing that you are happy? That is enough to let you stay with your team. You really were one of tge strongest warriors and still are! Half of these guards aren't even half your strength. Anyways, we had this sword made for you. It's really strong and will be way better than your old one. Hope you like it and happy birthday Vix! We love you!

Apparently I read that whole thing out loud and that didn't occurs to me until Bliss and Ember both hugged me with tears in their eyes. Mainly Bliss. "That was so heartwarming!" Bliss sniffed. A hot tear flowed down from my eye which I quickly got rid of.
I miss them.
