Vixen's Pov
{Still in the past}
When I finally reached the town, I gaped at it. All of the houses were made of stone but had stained glass of all different colors. Lanterns were pretty much everywhere and lit up the town like one giant beacon. Small shops were on every path I took. Smells of fresh bread reminded me how hungry I truly was.

Snow and icicles decorated the place.

Everyone would walk as if it were a lazy day and nothing was worrying or scary. I strolled for a while until I had found a place to stay. In my room, I tidied up before leaving. If I wanted to represent BlackRock then I had to at least look like I grew up there.

I noticed the sun was starting to set in the sky as I started patrolling. The town started to become colder as it did but I didn't mind. The cold was welcoming in a way. It was pretty nice to have a more dramatic change of weather. Plus, my uniform kept me warm. It was made for extreme cold or at least this one was.

I stared at one shop I started passed that held various kinds of cheese, bread and some kinds of treats I had never seen before. One particular wheel of cheese was not only one of the newer ones which meant it was freshly made, but it was in the corner of the wooden stand, almost like it was supposed to be separated from the rest of them.

Approaching the old lady who ran the shop, I asked about it. "Oh? This one? Hmm..." She straightened the messy bun full of white hair. "I'm not sure... Habit I guess. I always take one of the newer ones and place it there. I can never remember why... Oh well!" She waved the question away and offered me a strange treat.

As hungry as I was, I had to decline. One of the first things they teach you is never accept gifts from people unless they insist and it's something that could normally last a year. Like a ring or something.

I sighed and kept going, doing a full perimeter of the town and walking all throughout the inside. Nothing was here. However, when I came in sight of the same shop, something did happen. A shadow moved from behind the wooden structure making me pause.

Suddenly, a fairly tan hand nabbed the cheese shell that was separated from the rest and pulled it towards them quickly. I almost missed it had I not been looking directly at them. "HEY!" I dashed at the burglar. For just a moment, I could have sworn I heard them mumble "Oh crap..." But they bolted away before I could think about it.

I chased the thief through the streets before I got a good look at their attire. Full black with a mask covering everything but the eyes. The eyes were brown.

They looked to be female, pretty young but still around my age. She was much faster than me and on top of that, the did a flip onto the roof and got away. I followed in the same direction but lost them. I nearly slapped myself for losing my first criminal in this town. So stupid! I had nearly spoke out loud.

Back at my room, I started to plan. That lady said she put it there everyday so may be they'll come back. It's not a huge lead but it's all I've got. I huffed and fell asleep. The next day, I got up early and started off by doing another patrol.

The day went by quick and finally, it had turned to evening in the blink of an eye. I checked the shop and once again, the something happened. They grabbed the cheese, I chased after them and they used some weird acrobatics to elude me. I could have sworn they were taunting me this time.

And once again, I had to go back to my "Home" with no criminal put in jail. I swear that criminal is trying to piss me off.

The worse part is that it's working.

But I didn't get my rank for nothing. As soon as I rested up, I found the guards they had here and had a chat with them about what had been going on. I wasn't happy with my answer.

"Oh, that one girl? Yeah, we gave up on trying to catch her a long time ago." They told me. "She's really slippery and we don't have a very good justice system here so.... Yeah" They shrugged at me.

I narrow my eyes. Slippery huh? You know what else is slippery? Fish. I'm going to catch this one with some bait and some rope.

I set up my trap and waited. Fortunately for me, I was feeling rather patient today so waiting wasn't too bad. Not only that but, they came early. When I attacked them from above, their mask had gotten in the way and now it was off. Their true face revealed.

I had no idea who they were so that was pretty much useless.

"Aww! My mask! Dude, you owe me a new one." They glared at me. My eyebrows raised at the strange thief. "What? I got attached to that one okay? Sheesh." She rolled her eyes. "Who are you? What do you want?" She let out an annoyed sigh at me. "Really? I know you guys are all about justice and other crap but surely you would think that if someone wore a mask it was because," She faked gasped loudly. "They don't want to tell the world who they are? Common sense my friend, It's called comment sense."

I growled at them. "Not. Your. Friend"

"Well no duh! I wasn't being literal. I didn't know your name so I improvised, BUDDY." They spat the word out like poison.

"Well fine then! My name is Vixen. Remember it because BUDDY it is the same name that is putting you behind bars. We could do this easy or we could not. I can guess which on yo-"

"Fine. You win. To jail it is."

I blinked. "Wait... Really?" They snorted. "No! Holy crap, your face was the best." She wiped an imaginary tear from her face.

"Anyways, I better get going. This cheese isn't going to eat itself. Oh, and Vixen?" The thief winks at me. "The name's Ember. Try not to burn up with rage that you couldn't catch me Miss Blunder~" Ember bolted away.

Though I hesitated at first, mainly out of shock or anger, I managed to follow her carefully. With some slight manipulation through professional ways and totally not me throwing objects at her to make her go a certain way, she dashed down the very ally I wanted her to. She didn't notice the trap until she was in it.

"WHOA!" She yelped in surprise as the net caught her, pulling her up and trapping her. I smirked. "I thought flames were hard to catch!" I called to her. A huff came from her as she struggled in the ropes that held her. "Oh yeah?" With a fast and begrudgingly impressive movement, a dagger in her hand cut the rope and sent her to the ground. She landed on her feet and turned to me.

"Nice try but this flame has sharp objects. Catch me if you can!" And just like that, she ran off again. Another chase that she was going to win, but this time was different. I was on her tail and she seemed tired or exhausted.

Instead of loosing me in the town, she exited it and as I followed her, my eyes expanded.

Ember was heading for a large space between two mountains that looked even colder than everything else. I did what I had to and went after her.

Inside the large gap, it was cold and the snow was deep. Traveling through it and catching her was next to impossible especially because she knew what she was doing. I was beginning to come to terms that may be the guards were right. Maybe I should give up. I shook the thought away and kept going. No harm in trying.

Ember's Pov
A huge cheeky grin appeared on my face when I realized I was going to win. YES! I fist pumped. I love it when I win.

Traveling through the crack in the two mountains was hard, even for myself but I could do it better than anyone else. Though I really didn't like the cold and much preferred the sun, it was my only escape from her. Vixen.

Why couldn't she just leave me alone? I sighed. Oh well. I won anyways. There isn't much that could make me lose now. I smiled but something caught my eye.

My eyebrows knitted as I approached it and a gasp escaped my throat and not the sarcastic kind.

Someone was injured and lying in the snow. Un-moving and from what it looked like, unconscious.

I might have stolen things but I'm not that evil. I had to help... Or get help.

I groaned. Why do I have to be a good person? Carrying the female I found, I turned back and headed to my town, as well as Vixen. Here we go...
