Chapter 14- Control

Latin's Pov

I got back to my room and finally allowed myself to breath. In and Out I whispered to myself. The encounter with one of the missing had left me speechless. I hadn't uttered a word to anyone as I came here. The unnaturalness of the green eyes burned in my mind before I remember the two things I had retrieved.

I immediately went to the Cat's Eye Gem first. It's color was odd. It glowed a purple color which I had never seen any of its kind do before. I had to activate it. There was always one sure fire way of activating one and that was warmth. It can first activate by even the slightest amount of warmth, but later it needs more. I clutched it tightly in my hand before the Image projected itself up.

It was strange however. The images were moving and sound was captured as well. It began to play itself starting off in total darkness, until loud swearing that I won't ever repeat was picked up. "VIXEN!" Shrieked another voice. "What did I say about profanity?" I heard a small sigh. "Don't do it because children could hear and you'll scar them for life." The voice dragged on like this isn't the first time she has had this lecture.

I could practically hear her rolling her eyes.

Finally, images began to appear as something moved away from the Cat's Eye Gem, which I then recognized to be a foot. "So you do know. Then why was it necessary?" The second voice asked, less hostile this time. "I just stubbed my toe on a FREAKING gem." She spat out the word 'Freaking' as if she were trying to purposely annoy someone or make a point, most  likely to the second voice.

"Oh. Never mind then, that is understandable." They replied. "Hey, what's that?" A third voice entered. The third voice caught me by surprise as I recognized it more than the other two. If it were deeper it would sound just like that one girl. A hand blocked the view for a moment before it was a close up of someone's face.

"I think it's a Cat's Eye thingy!" They called to the other two loudly. "Why is it glowing purple? Bliss, this is your job." I heard something shuffle from out of the vision and then pages being flipped. "Uh... Page Three hundred forty something... Ah!" They exclaimed triumphantly. "It's uh. Ooooo!" They sounded excited. "It records stuff!" They flipped through more pages. "Records?" The first one asked. "Yes. Records past events by 'Picking up' images and sound on it and later can be shown exactly what it 'Picked up', pretty cool huh?"

The person it currently 'recorded' was smiling. "That's awesome Bliss" 'Bliss' made a happy sound. "Ember, Bliss, we have that thing remember. I hate to pry us away from this amazing thing but we do have to deal with the... uh." The image shifted to a different female with short hair. I saw their face visibly think before turning to a girl in a robe for help. "It literally says 'Mole Monster' under name. Creative huh?" 'Bliss' shrugged.

The first girl who I finally determined to be Vixen kept going with the other two following up behind. The last one who could only be Ember, placed the precious stone down and caught up with the rest easily. "So how do we deal with it?" Asked Vixen. "You can just stab it. It has no protection above ground. We have to watch out for the digging though" Their voices faded as they left.

For a very long time, nothing happened. I waited and waited but no result. I laid down to rest my eyes for a moment.

I hadn't realized I fell asleep until I heard very loud footsteps waking me up. I jolted up just in time to see Ember picking up the stone once again. Her hair was messed up and the same with her clothes, eyes were wild and fear lingered in them.

"I don't have much time." She huffed, taking quick breaths. "So whoever got this, listen up." She looked the gem straight in the eye, almost as if she was using it to make eye contact with me.

"Bliss was wrong. It wasn't a Mole Monster. It was something so much more. I have her book with me and I'm going to leave it will the Cat's Eye for you, the one watching. I'm screwed so there's no point in being optimistic about this. She bookmarked the page of the real monster once she saw it. Her and Vixen..." Her voice trailed off.

"They are both gone. But you might be able to help. Do something. Anything! Just save them. Save us all. It has them and it won't let them loose. There... There's a good chance that they are gone for good, and I'll follow them soon." She looked over her shoulder.

"It took Vixen first. We found out too late and she was gone before we could say a word. Me and Bliss made it out of the main area but she was stolen before we could get halfway. I just..." She looked away for a moment, but when she looked back, the fear was replaced with anger. "I'm next but I'm not going down without a fight. Stupid thing. Thinks it can take me friends well guess what, THIS ONE IS GOING TO KICK YOUR FACE OFF! I AM SO DONE WITH SO MANY FREAKY MONSTER WHO JUST RANDOMLY TAKE PEOPLE. I MEAN I KNOW IT'S MY JOB TO TAKE THEM OUT BUT REALLY, DOES THERE HAVE TO BE SO MANY? WHY CAN'T WE FOR ONCE JUST GO DRINK OUT OF COCONUTS AND ENJOY THE SUN!? SCREW. EVERYTHINGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

She turned towards the stone once again with fire in her eyes. "Don't do stupid things and you'll live. Goodbye." She got up and left. The recording ended soon after but not before a very slight 'thud' sound could be heard as if it was an echo coming from deep inside the cave.

I processed everything then opened the book, everything she had just said still echoed in my mind. Like she had said, a bookmark took me to a certain page. It talked of some sort of monster that lived in mountains, normally in the heart with a series of tunnels all around which made sense. The tunnels in Jewel Cave were stretched out across the whole thing. There were many drawings of the monster.

None of them looked the same. Apparently no one who has gotten close to the thing gives an account of what it looks like. Only one thing really worried me.

The creature was known for mind control.

  I huffed, one thing was on my mind. For a first case, this was going to be hard.
