The next day was pretty calm. I mostly got ready for the quest. I packed my bags and said my goodbyes. I would have to leave after breakfast. The plan was to go down to the subway and take it as far as we could. We wanted to go all the way to Las Vegas which was across the country so I didn't know how we were going to do it. Chiron gave Logan, Bianca, and I drachmas and normal cash. He also gave us ambrosia and nectar just in case. Bianca held most the healing supplies being a daughter of Apollo and all.
I went to bed early since I had a long day ahead of me. I woke up and got ready. I strapped my sword around my back and put my backpack over it. I headed to breakfast ate as much food as I could and then we headed off. Argus drove us down to the subway and we got on it while Argus drove back to camp half blood. I sat down next to Bianca and Logan stood up next to us holding on to a pole.
"Hey Bianca." I said getting bored of the silence.
"What's up dude?"
"Just traveling in a boring subway." I joked.
"Me too. Look over there. Do you see that... person. I don't know if that thing is human." It had the hairiest legs which were mostly covered by pants thankfully. I thought it might be a satyr but its face did not agree. It had a pointed nose that almost looked like a beak.
"I don't think it's human either." I reached down in my pocket to find my Hecate wheel. I started turning it around in my hand.
"Logan." He looked at me and I pointed to the thing that might be a monster.
"Hey. You never know it could just be a weird New Yorker." Said Bianca jokingly.
We edged closer to the monster and I turned my Hecate wheel into a wand. I felt like some sort of wizard. First we had decide whether this was a real monster or not. A truth spell. I cast it quickly and suddenly people in the whole train were blurting out random things. Bianca said something about her mom. I said that I feel confused everyday and don't know what the truth is. I glanced at Bianca and her eyes were wide at Logan. I didn't hear what he said.
And then it happened, the truth that I actually wanted to know came out. The thing was a monster. It transformed into a lion with an eagle head. It's tail was whipping around. It was an ugly creature. It looked like it hadn't eaten in weeks. It had boney body and was snarling edging toward us.
"It's a griffin." Said Logan unsheathing his sword.
Enough with the wand for now. I put the wheel back in my pocket. I got out the sword that Flynn made for me. The griffin charged and was about to pounce on me but at last second it flew to the side. Logan was on top of it tackling him. I took a slice at it and it whimpered. Black smoke was coming out of it like Ajax. But this cut was a lot worse. I could tell it was burning him on the inside. I sliced him again and again. Finally with one last whimper he exploded into dust.
"Good job." Logan said with heavily breaths. At first I thought he was just tired but then I noticed him clutching a part of his stomach. Bianca and I ran over to him.
"Let me see the wound." Said Bianca getting out healing supplies. He unclenched his hands and winced. Bianca gave him some healing supplies and ambrosia. She cleaned it out and covered it with a bandage. I could tell the ambrosia was making him feel better.
"I'm fine. Thank you Bianca." I didn't realize it until now but we were at the next stop and people were screaming and rushing out. The intercom said everyone must evacuate the subway station until further notice. We walked up to the surface and decided our best bet was to take the bus as long as we could.
