I felt like a vigilant owl as I sat on the seat too upright with Amelia whistling as she drove. The sun was already setting and it was getting dark. It hasn't been five minutes since she said what was unnecessary and I've already become too jumpy. Wolves can't attack humans, can they? I was about to say something when the truck slowed down and came to a stop.
"Oh, no." Amelia gasped. Worry was written on her face. "We ran out of gas." She said as horror etched her face. "It's also getting dark. This is dangerous." She started closing the windows then dialed someone on her phone.
"Why?" I asked. "Amelia?" I was starting to get scared. We were in the middle of a forest and the sun was setting and there are wolves roaming around. Her word dangerous wasn't helping too.
I kept my eyes wide open eyeing every movement around us. A bush rustled next to me making me eye that area properly. I backed away from the door and locked it.
"Shit." I turned to Amelia who was reading a text on her phone. She seemed too sweet to cuss. "How could they text me and not answer their phones?" She said angrily as she turned to me without thought which made me jerk. "Mr. Heath. I know you should've been briefed properly but we have to run over a few things before this situation may go out of hand."
"What are you talking about?" I felt a sudden rush in my body from fear and excitement. Let's just say I get this sudden tingle down my core when I become nervous or scared. Several situations flashed through my mind as I waited for her to answer. Then I remembered a lot of scary, gruesome movies but my thoughts focused on the wolf we saw earlier. Was it actually that dangerous?
"Do you believe in bloodsucking creatures and moon obsessed shape-shifters, called vampires and lycans?" She started wearing a holster and slipping silver guns and knives in its pockets.
"Is this some kind of traditional prank to welcome your students at school?" I narrowed my eyes at her with a knowing smirk.
"Fine. Have it your way." My smirk fell when she faced two guns at me and shot.
"Are you crazy?! Wha..." I turned to see the shattered window with tainted blood. "Is that... is that... b-blood...?" I stuttered as I scooted away from the door. "Am I dead?!" I checked myself in a panic and stare at her like she was crazy.
"Now do you believe me?" I turned to face her.
"You could have killed me!" I yelled at her as I looked back and forth at her guns and at the window. "You just shot someone." I muttered. "I must be dreaming. Right. I just fell asleep and now I'm dreaming." I tried to convince myself then started slapping my cheeks like a madman. "Wake up, Heath! Wake up!" I heard her sigh as I stopped hitting myself.
"Well, I wish this is one." She breathed out. "We have to run." She said as she got out of the car while I could barely move from confusion. She just pointed a gun at me and shot someone or something behind me. How could I trust her? "Come on. They can wreck this car. We have to run to the castle." She said but I was still too confused to move. "Come on." After seconds of staring at each other I've finally had the courage to move.
With shaky hands I crawled out to her but stopped when I heard metal creaking and a whooshing sound. I turned to the direction of the sounds and she did the same. The door was gone. I hurried and was ready to take a hit on the ground when I felt a furry hand grab my ankle. She pointed her gun to where the door once was as she grabbed my shirt and pulled me to her. But as she pulled me, the hand did the same. The next thing I knew is I was flying in thin air and finally stopped when I heard a crack as my back hit a tree.
"Shit." I cussed. My eyesight was blurry and gunshots rang in my ear. I started coughing as liquid flowed to my tongue from my throat. Blood. I groaned as I pushed myself up, wincing at the pain the movement had caused inside me. Growling noises caught my attention as I snapped up to where it came from. Wolves were surrounding me and my vision doubled their number. I barely got up when something pounced on my back making me cry out in pain.
I shut my eyes as I heard the growling just behind my neck and waited for the worse to come. But didn't. The paw on my back was gone as I heard a dog's cry. The whimpers continued until I felt something heavy on my back.
"No..." I cried out as I hid my head under my arms. I could have run away but my chest prevented me to do so. I might've broken my ribs. And again like déjà vu I waited for the beast to snap my neck but instead it nuzzled my neck as it whimpered. I blinked a few times not believing what was happening but the sweet sensation left when the wolf that hovered above me growled. And before I knew it, I felt something pierce below my shoulder and slide down before my pelvis making me cry out in yet another pain.
My cheeks were damp as the wolf licked my back. My breath hitching as I could barely keep my eyes open. I feel soft fur below me as I slipped into darkness.
