Katniss's POV

I thank Peeta for walking me home and calming me down earlier with a kiss on the cheek and a thank you. He smiled so brightly and I watch him leave to his house happily before I went to mine. I head into my house and run up to my room as fast as I could possibly with this dress and heels on. The green walls remind me of the woods and sooths me. I smile and change out of the silver dress. I throw it in a corner of my room, and switch to pajamas.

I slip into bed and stare out the window. I watch the stars move in the sky until I fall asleep.

"Peeta!" I scream. Cato has him locked with his arm around Peeta’s neck. His face has turned a slight tint of deep purple and slowly getting darker the longer his arm is blocking his air ways. The veins in Cato’s arm increase in sticking out the more strength he puts in chocking Peeta. My arrow is in place with my bow, I almost shoot at random.

"Stay still, Twelve," Cato screams, "or I'll kill him before that arrow hits your target!"

I stay put. I loosen my arrow a bit, the strong slicing the end of my finger, knowing if I fire, Peeta goes down along with Cato. Peeta's begging for air. I can't keep up with this waiting in a suspenseful silence any longer. Cato laughs, blood pouring out of his mouth with it. "I thought I could win. Win for my district! For my pride! But I guess not. I guess, little miss girl on fire needs her lover.

"Hey lover boy," he pokes Peeta and tightens his grip again. "Give this flame a last kiss goodbye."

Peeta kicks Cato, doing no damage to him. He is probably wearing a protective shield he only could have gotten from sponsors from the Capitol.

Peeta shakes his head in disagreement. He is not leaving, he is not leaving me behind to sit in sorrow my whole life. I aim for Cato's head and fire but I somehow get Peeta.

I scream as Peeta falls with Cato to the mutts barking and trying to climb up the Cornucopia.

"Peeta! No!" I scream and try to reach for him, but something pulls me flying backwards. I land on my back, lost of breath. I turn my head and scream again. President Snow holds me back while I begin to kick and scream.

This is a dream, I tell myself, and you’ll be fine and Peeta will be fine and Snow will be gone and Cato will be dead, once you wake up. Just wake up.

"Just watch him. Let him scream. You know you hate him. Just let him die,” Snow whispers in my ear.

"No. No! Peeta!" My voice is louder than ever as I scream for him. He cries out my name as the mutts tear him apart. I fall to my knees when two cannons fire.

"No, no," I whisper. "NO!"

"Katniss!"

I gasp and sit up, tears spilling down my cheeks. Peeta is at my side, not far down my feet and being mauled. I lung to him.

"Please, please don't leave me,” I whisper. He nods and rubs my back and hair. I shake vibrantly. My breathing is rocky. My eyes grow heavy. He carried me in his arms and tells me about things, his life, what he wanted in life, his dreams, how much he loves me. I smiled through the whole thing as I calm down. But I question what was happening, I was confused at this. Wasn't Peeta dying a moment ago?

I slowly drift off under Peeta's light words. I could feel his chest move quickly as he laughs at me smiling.

"Thank you Peeta," I whisper. And then I fall sleep.
