I sat up! Only to hear the sound of the rushing brook outside, and the snores of Lucy. She looked so exhausted. I smiled. I got up and walked into Lucy's overlarge closet. The night before she said to just pick something out to wear to school. I picked out the two things that looked cheap and not too expensive. I got a plain white blouse that was very airy, the sleeves looked like it was a Mexican shirt. Then I got a pair of blue/white jeans. I walked to her bathroom and got out my make-up kit. I put on some of my black liquid eye-liner, and some blush. I put my hair up in a bun, and put on my blue glasses. I walked out of the room and saw Lucy yawning and sitting at her vanity in a pink skirt and a white tank top. She was putting on some eye-liner and mascara. She turned and looked at me.
"Poppy, you look so cute! But isn't your make-up a little simple for our Shakespeare rehearsals?" she chirped. I blushed, and smacked my head.
"Crap! I totally forgot! Do you have a script?" I asked her. She nodded and finished applying her blush. She walked to her backpack and and grabbed the packet and gave it to me to review. Everyone in the Shakespeare will have ONE scene, we have enough people fore one scene per person/couple. I flipped throughout the packet, looking for the "Romeo and Juliette" When i finally found it. I groaned. I forgot that it was the balcony scene. I read through it first, and dreaded as the last line of the packet says: "Juliette kisses Romeo" I just hated it. I couldn't even bring myself to kiss the boy that dumped his girlfriend for a girl he had just meant, and the girl that ran away from him. Lucy sat me down at the vanity and applied concealer, more blush, darker eye-liner, and fake eye-lashes(because i don't have long enough eye-lashes.) She took my bun out, and crimped my hair. While she was, she made "simple conversation."
"So......What are you going to do about Jullian?" she asked. I shrugged and tugged at a strand of my hair. I didn't feel like talking about it. I knew that if he wanted to find the girl at the ball, he would have to try to find me. I left my favorite shoe for a reason. He will have to find the one girl in the school that this shoe will fit. I know it won't fit any other girl at this school, because those shoes were specially made for my feet, and my feet alone. I felt nervous.
"I just hope that nothing will happen between us to make anything awkward between our acquaintance relationship." I mumbled. Lucy finished my hair.
"Grab your bag, and we can go." Lucy chirped in her loud, joyful voice. I was very proud to call her my friend. I grabbed my brown hobo bag and followed her out the door of her room. Her mom was in the kitchen making something, it smelled good, but looked strange. She smiled as she had her apple themed apron. She had brilliant green eyes, and her hair was pretty.
"Goodmorning, Lucy. Want some breakfast?" She asked. Lucy shook her head, and grabbed me and her a piece of cinnamon bread. I looked at Melissa better, and realized that her stomach was buldging. I just realized why Lucy was so stiff around her stepmom. She's pregnent. Melissa made a disappointed face, but quickly covered it up with a smiled.
"Okay, i will just see you later." she said, continuing to walk around the kitchen. I felt bad, but just followed Lucy out of the house and into the garage to grab her car.
"Hey Lucy, why are you so stiff around your Step-Mom." I asked. Lucy started the car and drove down the street.
"She's trying to be my Mother, and she's not." She breathed. I was silent, and listened to her story."
"Well, before my sister was born, my Dad was cheating on my Mom. So when she and dad died, we found out Melissa was pregnant with Dad's son/daughter, so the law made a live with her and her horrid new husband. When Melissa first moved in with us, she despised Jackie. She never said why, but she was just brutal to her. Jackie spent more time crying, and less time loving her new life. Melissa must have hated her so much, that she sent her to California to go to school, she sent her far, far away from home. Jackie always loved to dance, so our step-Dad had her audition for a dance studio. She was excepted, and Melissa had her packed and ready to leave the house on her own within seconds." She sobbed. Watching Lucy cry was so heart-breaking. She just looked so miserable.
"She never paid any attention to me. But whenever she did, she looked at me with this look of disgust on her face. I knew what she was doing, but i decided to keep quiet, which on my part was a mistake." It was quiet for a moment. Lucy stopped at the stop sign and pulled over a little. She took out her necklace. It was a small, simple heart. There was no designs on it, it wasn't fancy in any way, just simple and smooth. She clicked in open, and on the inside was a small picture of young Lucy and a very nice looking women. They looked almost exactly the same. Lucy was just hugging her mother's face. She closed the necklace. I took mine and opened it, and showed her the picture of my Mom. She smiled.
"You look just like your Mom, she's so beautiful." She said, smiling at the picture. We laughed at our tiny faces and started to lighten the mood. Lucy started to drive down the road again.
