Matt

Apart from the news of Claire and Javier, Zann seemed fine for the rest of the day.

After school, during lunch, I met up with Matthew, Diana, Janice and Zann at our usual lunch table.

Zann was in the middle as usual, chatting with Diana and Janice. Matthew was just oh-so-subtly glancing at her.

I elbowed him.

"Ow..." he winced.

It was a pretty light jab, but I knew he cried out for attention.

Zann turned her head. There was a familiar sparkle in her eye that was usually reserved for us.

"Was that just something to get my attention again?" she asked, slugging his arm.

He grinned widely.

Oh, come on.

"Maybe. In fact, yes!" he said as Diana and Janice laughed.

She rolled her eyes.

"Ha. Ha. Ha." she commented and turned to me.

"Anything on Jave?" she asked quietly.

He was over with her, yet she still called him by the nickname she gave him.

"No. He's just sitting with Claire. You wanna, I don't know... talk to him?" I asked lamely.

Of course she didn't.

"Yes." she replied.

O-kay, she was a bit unpredictable.

I scooted over to make room for her to get out.

"I'll go with you," Matthew suggested and rose.

I shot him a look for, Let-her-do-this-on-her-own-you-don't-have-to-be-there.

He sighed and sat back down.

Zann hovered hesitantly.

"Just go, Z! We'll keep an eye on you." I said.

She nodded and left. Matthew bit his lip and twiddled his thumbs.

"I have to go after her," he said desperately.

"She has her own two feet. Let her stand. You don't always have to be there for her." I said.

He sighed and nodded.
